We’ve all been there.

You’re trying to frame the perfect shot, or watching a turtle swim past, or looking at the coral... and suddenly someone’s fin appears out of nowhere. Maybe it’s even your own 😳

A recent study found that much of the contact divers make with reefs is completely unintentional, often happening without us even noticing.

Not because divers don’t care. Usually because underwater, there’s a lot competing for our attention.

It’s an interesting reminder that awareness underwater isn’t just about gauges and gas. Sometimes it’s about knowing where our fins, cameras and bodies are too.

The encouraging part? The study also showed this is a fixable problem, not an unavoidable part of diving. Awareness underwater can go a long way, especially on the reefs we all want to keep returning to.
