🤔 Did you know that your brain is only 2% of your total body weight but uses around 20% of your energy?

🤯Brain cells use much more energy than other cells in your body and they're always active, even when you're asleep

🧠The frontal lobe is responsible for your personality and movement - it's what makes you, you!

❤️Staying socially active, challenging your brain regularly and looking after your heart health all play a role in helping to protect your brain health, reducing the risk of developing dementia.

🎶🤭In our Move it or Lose it classes we tick all of these boxes while enjoying some great music and having a few giggles along the way!

What if one of the best ways to feel better didn’t come in a bottle, an app or an expensive treatment?
What if it was simply moving your body? 💜💚
A major new study published in Nature Human Behaviour analysed almost one million hours of physical activity and more than 320,000 wellbeing ratings from over 8,000 people.
The findings were exciting:
✨ Moving more was linked with feeling better afterwards
✨ Feeling better made people more likely to move again
✨ The strongest link wasn’t just happiness — it was energy
In other words, movement and wellbeing can create a positive cycle.
At Move it or Lose it, we see this every week. People may join because they know they “should” exercise, but they stay for the laughter, friendships, confidence and feel-good energy they gain along the way.
Our latest Turn Back the Clock: The Age-Defying Edit blog explores why moving more can help you feel better — and why feeling better can help you keep moving.

Could beetroot juice help support healthier blood pressure as we age? ❤️
New research from the University of Exeter has found that older adults who drank nitrate-rich beetroot juice twice a day for two weeks saw a reduction in blood pressure — and the reason may start in the mouth.
The study found that beetroot juice changed the balance of bacteria in the mouth in older adults, supporting the pathway that helps the body produce nitric oxide — a compound that helps blood vessels relax and function well.
And it’s not just beetroot. Other nitrate-rich vegetables include spinach, rocket, fennel, celery and kale.
Of course, beetroot juice isn’t a replacement for medication or medical advice, but this research adds to the growing evidence that small, everyday lifestyle choices can play a role in healthy ageing.
Another reminder that looking after our bodies as we age starts with the simple things: moving more, eating well, staying connected and building healthy habits that last.

What if the secret to stronger bones as we age isn’t what most people think?
We often hear that walking is good for us — and it absolutely is.
But when it comes to supporting bone health, new research suggests there may be something else we need to pay attention to as we get older.
In our latest Turn Back the Clock: The Age-Defying Edit blog, we explore what really helps keep bones stronger for longer — and why the Move it or Lose it approach fits so well with the evidence.

Isn't Cyril a marvellous example of healthy ageing?!

Meet Cyril 👏
At 90 years young, Cyril has been coming to Move it or Lose it classes for an incredible 11 years — and he’s still going strong.
A regular in Yvonne’s class in Harborne, Birmingham, Cyril is not only committed to keeping active, but also known for keeping everyone on their toes… especially Yvonne, who he loves to play up for!
It’s members like Cyril who remind us that staying active isn’t just about exercise — it’s about routine, connection, laughter and enjoying every moment. And that consistency over time is what really makes the difference.

As we age, it’s natural to lose muscle mass and strength, which can make everyday activities harder and increase the risk of falls. Our balance can decline too, but the good news is that regular exercise can make a huge difference! 💪

Move it or Lose it classes are specially designed for older adults to help improve strength, balance, mobility and confidence in a fun and supportive environment. Staying active also helps keep our hearts healthy, boosts circulation and supports brain health, helping us stay sharper, happier and more independent for longer. 🧠👊

And it’s not just about exercise!

With great music, plenty of laughter and the chance to make new friends, classes are a wonderful way to combat social isolation and loneliness too. The social connection and sense of community can be just as important for wellbeing as the physical benefits. 🎶💃

It’s never too late to start moving more — every step, stretch and smile counts! 💪😃🧠🎶

Come along, keep active and enjoy moving together.

Classes at Praa Sands & District Community Centre and St Piran's Hall Goldsithney.
