FC Hartlepool Athletic vs South Tyneside Youth

Athletic made the trip to downhill hub on Saturday morning for the last game of the spring cup, and came up against a very talented team in South Tyneside Youth.

Both teams started brightly looking to get on the front foot, and this lead to a number of chances at either end. It was South Tyneside who broke the deadlock, reacting first to a loose ball and finishing well. This sparked Athletic into life and they soon brought the game level, when Rio finished off a great move with Sonny providing the assist. Athletic continued to pressure the opposition and got their reward before half time, Theo this time the provider for Teddy who finished clinically.

Athletic came flying out the blocks in the second half, passing and moving at a high tempo with every player keen to get on the ball. Athletic extended their lead further with two well work goals, Rio getting his second of the day and Theo then finishing powerfully with Jenson and Jacob providing the assists. South Tyneside responded well and had a great spell of their own which led to them pulling a goal back. They could have easily had more but George pulled off a number of impressive saves. Haris, Oliver and Charlie also defended bravely throughout ensuring South Tyneside couldn’t get back into the game. Athletic managed to put the game to bed when Teddy doubled his tally for the day.

A brilliant end to a really impressive first season for Athletic, who notched 63 goals in just 8 spring cup games. The boys should be extremely proud of the improvements made over the last few months!

FC Hartlepool Athletic Vs South Shields Harton & Westoe Juniors

Athletic made the trip to the downhill hub for a midday KO against South Shields Harton & Westoe Juniors on Saturday. It proved to be a tough test for boys in hot conditions against a solid side.

Both teams battled hard through out the first period and their was chances at either end, but neither side could break the deadlock.

Athletic started the second period brightly and soon took the lead when Jacob played a quick ball into Kalem, who went clear and finished clinically into the bottom corner. This was followed by some excellent spells of play from Athletic, who were unlucky not to go further ahead through Jenson who used his pace to great effect.Sonny was also a constant threat, linking up well with Theo in midfield. Harton & Westoe continued to battle hard, and managed to bring the game level as the ball trickled over the line. Athletic responded well and piled pressure on the opposition. And it wasn’t long before they regained the lead through Kalem who calmly rounded the keeper, following a great ball from Theo.

Athletic were made to work hard in the closing stages with Harton & Westoe pushing for an equaliser. But Charlie and Jacob defended bravely, with Teddy also pulling off some great stops in goal. A well earned victory, as all of the boys completed the full 50 minutes!

🏆 JUNIOR WORLD CUP 🏆

Athletic took part in the JUNIOR WORLD CUP on bank holiday Monday in the glorious sunshine.

The boys got off to an absolute flyer winning the opening game against Gateshead Redheugh convincingly, scoring a number of well worked goals and keeping a clean sheet. This was followed by a defeat against Crook Cobras, as the boys let their heads go down and stopped playing as a team after conceding an early goal. The defeat was a wake up call for Athletic as the boys hit form against Ferryhill Town coming away with a well earned victory and another clean sheet. In the final group game against Blyth Town Blues both sides battled in a game which would end all square. This was enough for Athletic to progress into the Gold Cup Semi Finals!

Athletic came up against Blyth Town Royals in the semi finals, who had topped their group and were unbeaten. Athletic went onto deliver their best performance of the day, scoring two cracking goals and earning another clean sheet.

Familiar opponents Blyth Town Blues awaited the boys in the final, with the previous group game ending all square. This game was very similar with both sides battling hard, but no one could find the breakthrough. This meant the game would be decided by penalties, which unfortunately once again ended in heartbreak for Athletic.

An outstanding effort from all the boys who worked hard all afternoon in the blazing sun. No more tournaments or dreaded penalty shootouts on the horizon for Athletic as we focus on the remaining Spring Cup games.

FC Hartlepool Athletic vs Seaham Coast Inter

Athletic travelled to the downhill hub on Saturday morning to face Seaham Coast Inter, on match day six of the Spring Cup.

Athletic came out firing from the first whistle, constantly pressing the opposition and playing some great passing football. Seaham had some good moments of their own, but the Athletic defence and George in goal dealt with everything that came their way. Athletic went into half time with a very healthy lead.

Second half started off with George making a good save from a long range effort. Athletic then started to move the ball around excellently at a high tempo, this resulted in Athletic extending their lead further.

Unfortunately Seaham decided they wanted to end the game 15 minutes early, to the disappointment of the Athletic boys who had made the journey from Hartlepool.

An outstanding team performance from Athletic with everyone involved - passing, moving and playing with a smile on their faces. We now look forward to Monday as we participate in the Junior World Cup!

🏆⚽️ POOLS YOUTH TOURNAMENT ⚽️🏆

After a fantastic result for the boys against St.Francis on the morning… it was onto the Pools Youth Tournament in the afternoon. This was Athletics first time playing in a high level competition and the boys certainly did not look out of place!

The group stages consisted of 5 x 16 minute games. The boys were unlucky in the opening three games, just falling short and conceding late goals. The boys didn’t let their heads drop and continued to battle on. This determination paid off in the next game against Pools Youth Blues as the boys secured their first win of the day! Onto the final group game against Leven with Athletic needing a win to progress into the knockout stages. The boys delivered their best performance of the day, securing a convincing victory along with a clean sheet!

PLATE FINAL
The two wins for Athletic meant a place in the Plate Final against Seaton Lions, who had scored a late winner when the teams met in the group stages. Both teams looked determined from the first whistle, battling for every ball. Neither side could break the deadlock in the first period with the score level going into half time. Second half the Athletic boys looked tired but continued to try and play passing football and press the opposition. But it was Seaton who found the net scoring two well worked goals. Athletic continued to battle until the final whistle but it wasn’t to be.

A brilliant day for Athletic who achieved more than expected, playing a year up at high level. Every single one of the boys should be incredibly proud! 👏

A massive thank you to all the Athletic parents, family and friends who turned out in their numbers, showing fantastic support to the team all day! It is massively appreciated! 👏
