Established in 1919 Felling Cricket Club has developed into one of the leading clubs in the North East, and is also known nationally through hosting many high profile regional matches. Situated at High Heworth Lane, Felling, our picturesque ground is perfect for a relaxing day or evening of good class cricket. With full bar and refreshment facilities open whenever cricket is played you are assured

of a warm welcome. The club fields a 1st and 2nd XI each Saturday afternoon in the Dukes North East Premier League division 1, while our third XI play on Sunday afternoon. Felling operate teams at all junior levels, our under 18s play on Tuesday evenings, under 15s on Monday evenings, under 13s on Wednesday evenings and under 11s on Sunday mornings throughout the summer. It's time for drunken match report!

At Shotley Bridge the 1st X knew that on a rainy day the toss was crucial. Keeping up with recent form Alan Mustard managed to lose yet another toss (it's honestly defying mathematics at this point for such a massive tosser to keep losing these) and we were enforced into bat on a day when the weather was almost certain to have a big say.

As it played out we didn't actually lose as much time in the game as anticipated. A gritty 38 from Jim Twiddy was ably supported by 21 from Alasdair Appleby and 19 from Eddie Hurst. However it was Liam Stamper batting at 8 that played the crucial innings, hitting his maiden first team fifty for his score of 52 and ensuring we had 208 to defend.

In reply, Paul Leonard rolled back the years and got two wickets with the first two balls of the 2nd innings to leave Shotley Bridge reeling at 0-2. The Greenwell/Burdon partnership put Shotley into a winning position and at 172-4 there was only one result in the mind of this spectating fool. Paul Leonard, in his advancing years, had other ideas. He wiped Shotleys lower order out to see them all out for 186 and get himself figures of 5-19 off his 9.3 overs. Blokes still a legend despite "the ball wont swing if its wet". Greenwell and Milburn both made fifties for Shotley and both should be noted as really good efforts in tricky conditions.

Weekend team news:

On Saturday, the 2nd red ball week is upon us and the 1st XI travel up to Shotley Bridge on Saturday and the 2s host Tynemouth at home.

Sunday sees the academy host Gateshead Fell with a 1:30pm start.

Letโ€™s hope the weather forecast is wrong and we see lots of cricket this weekend, good luck to all players

Teams for this weekend:

Friday sees 1st XI host Burnopfield looking to book their place in the knockout stage of the NEPL T20 Cup, 6pm start.

Saturday sees the 1st and 2nd XI convert to whites and red ball cricket where the format is win/lose/draw and an earlier start of 11am for both sides. The 1s travel to the west end to face Benwell Hill while the 2s host Benwell at High Heworth Lane.

On Sunday the Academy travel to Jesmond to face Newcastle where theyโ€™ll be looking to continue to their good start to the season where they sit top of the league after 5 games.

With the weather forecast looking brilliant again, all support on Friday & Saturday would be welcome with the bar open from 5 on Friday, and 12 on Saturday.
