Sutton Cricket Club

Sutton Cricket Club Sutton Cricket Club is an active club running two senior Saturday teams in the north east of Cambridgeshire

We have been playing cricket here in Sutton since 1880. Our President hasn’t quite been playing since then (despite persistent rumours to the contrary) There are however families in the village whose names occur on some of the early photographs in our pavilion

We have a lovely ground here in Sutton, alongside Station Road. It is surrounded by hedges and trees, with a splendid view up to St Andrew

’s church. The outfield is distinguished by remnants of the pre enclosure Ridge and Furrow system, (making for interesting fielding challenges at times). We also have one of the very few remaining mature Elm trees left in the village, an old pollarded tree, probably close to 200 years old. Do come down on a Saturday afternoon from early May and support your local club.

TOUGH DAY FOR SUTTON'S SATURDAY SIDES 🏏

Both Sutton Saturday teams suffered defeats this weekend, but there were still positives to take from the performances.

Michael Grady starred for the 1st XI with 4 wickets and top-scored with 31, while Duncan Turner added 24.

The 2nd XI were led by an excellent 51 from James Phipps, with Paul Robinson contributing 17.

A special mention goes to Oscar Pergl-Wilson, who made his senior debut for Sutton CC and marked the occasion by claiming his first senior wicket. Another great example of the club's junior pathway producing players for senior cricket. πŸ‘

Thank you to Eleanor Monk for sponsoring this weekend's match balls. Your support is greatly appreciated by everyone at Sutton Cricket Club.

🏏 TOUGH NIGHT FOR THE U14s AGAINST A STRONG HISTON SIDE 🏏

Sutton U14s faced a difficult challenge away at Histon on Friday evening, with the home side running out winners by 103 runs.

Travelling with only 9 players, Sutton showed great determination and attitude throughout the evening against a strong Histon side.

After electing to field first, Sutton battled hard in the heat against an aggressive batting line-up. Oscar Pergl-Wilson and Jason Harnwell were the pick of the bowlers with 2 wickets each, while Henry Ayres also claimed 2 wickets during an improved second half of the innings. Noah Craven kept things tight early on and there was some excellent effort in the field throughout the match despite Sutton being short-handed.

Histon eventually finished on 162-6 from their 20 overs.

In reply, Sutton found runs difficult to come by against some accurate bowling, but the team kept fighting right until the end. Oscar Pergl-Wilson got Sutton going early with 6, while K Grady battled hard throughout the innings. Despite the result, there were positive moments and valuable experience gained against a very good opposition side.

A massive well done to all the players for their effort, attitude and determination throughout the game. Plenty to learn from and lots of cricket still ahead this season πŸ’›πŸ’š

🏏 SUTTON & HADDENHAM WOMEN CLAIM FANTASTIC 46 RUN WIN! 🏏

A brilliant all-round team performance saw Sutton & Haddenham Women secure an excellent 46 run victory away at Chippenham in the Women’s Softball League. πŸ’›πŸ’š

After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, Sutton & Haddenham posted a strong total of 149-2 from their 20 overs. Contributions came right through the batting order, with C Hough finishing unbeaten on a quickfire 15 including a huge six, while A Ware added an excellent 12 not out. K Lister got the innings off to a strong start with 15, while solid contributions from R Megginson, H Wass, F Megginson and G Lister kept the scoreboard moving throughout.

The running between the wickets was excellent all innings and the team capitalised well on extras to build a very competitive total.

With the ball, Sutton & Haddenham were outstanding in the field. Freya Ashman produced a superb spell, taking an incredible 5 wickets while keeping the pressure on Chippenham throughout the middle overs. G Lister and K Thorpe also picked up wickets, while the whole team worked hard in the field with great energy and encouragement from start to finish.

Chippenham finished on 123-6 from their 20 overs, giving Sutton & Haddenham a deserved 46 run victory and another excellent team performance.

A fantastic morning of cricket with brilliant team spirit throughout πŸ’šπŸ‘
