Stop guessing... Measure it, fix the mechanics, and let the numbers speak for themselves!

I hear it all the time. ‘Off’ usually means your body is sub-consciously guarding a joint that isn’t working right.

Before I even start physical testing, here are the 4 key things I evaluate to catch an issue before it turns into a major injury:

1️⃣ PAIN TIMING: Morning stiffness usually means joint inflammation. Pain that starts 20 minutes into a game means a tendon is taking too much stress.

2️⃣ HIDDEN SWELLING: Fluid buildup can be invisible to the naked eye, but even a tiny bit tricks the brain into shutting off the quad muscle.

3️⃣ LATE-GAME FATIGUE: If the knee feels fine early on but unsteady late in the game, the supporting muscles are fatiguing and dumping load onto the joint.

4️⃣ LACK OF TRUST: Hesitating for a split second before cutting or absorbing contact means the nervous system detects instability before you even feel pain.

Ignoring “off” is how minor tweaks turn into missed months on the sidelines. Address the warning signs early.

..But knowing when to pay attention makes all the difference. 👇

Here’s what Leila Owen watching for:
1️⃣ Pain that doesn’t settle with recovery.
2️⃣ Discomfort that changes how you move or perform.
3️⃣ Swelling, instability, or hesitation during movements that normally feel comfortable.

The goal isn’t just to push harder. It’s to train smarter, recover properly, and stay in the game. 💪

..And your force output went up 14% 📈 while everyone else was losing their speed... 📉

Most players watch their jump height, velocity, and explosive edge slowly drain away by November. They think “fatigue” is inevitable.

In reality, you don’t lose your gains during the season, you lose them because you stop measuring and managing load.

How we keep your numbers climbing while playing 2–3 games a week:

1️⃣ FORCE PLATE TRACKING: ForceDecks show us central nervous system fatigue before your legs even feel heavy.

2️⃣ MICRO-DOSING STRENGTH: High-intent, low-volume lifting that maintains max power without leaving you sore for game day.

3️⃣ THERAPY INTEGRATION: Leila keeps your hips, groins, and ankles mobile so every watt of power actually translates to the ice.

That lifting weights makes you stiff, bulky, or slow... 👇

In reality, hitting triple axels and quad jumps requires massive rotational power and single-leg deceleration, and you can’t build that on flexibility alone.

We don’t train skaters like powerlifters, we build strength that serves your artistry:

1️⃣ EXPLOSIVE ROTATION: Generating high-speed torque through the hips and core without throwing off your axis.

2️⃣ LANDING DECELERATION: Absorbing 5x your body weight on a single blade without overloading your knees or lower back.

3️⃣ END-RANGE CONTROL: Strengthening muscles at the absolute limit of your mobility so your lines look effortless and stay injury-free.

Clearing rehab is one thing. Surviving a 40+ game or match schedule after an ACL or MCL injury is a completely different story.

Our Athletic Therapist Leila Bauer sees it all the time: an athlete gets cleared to play, but 4 weeks into high-volume competition, subtle warning signs start creeping back in.

Whether you’re on the ice, turf, or course post-rehab, here are the 4 red flags to watch for once competition ramps up:

1️⃣ POST-GAME SWELLING: Fluid buildup in the joint means your knee isn’t fully absorbing the force of high-speed cuts, turns, or landing impacts yet.

2️⃣ NEXT-DAY STIFFNESS: Waking up locked up the morning after competing means the joint is taking the beating instead of your surrounding muscles.

3️⃣ LATE-GAME HESITATION: If you catch yourself pulling back on aggressive plays when fatigue sets in, your brain doesn’t fully trust the joint yet.

4️⃣ FATIGUE COMPENSATION: As your conditioning gets tested, weak glutes or hamstrings force your knee to cave inward, putting the ligament back at risk.

Parent tip: Not all hockey injuries happen from big hits. 🏒

When a skater gets hurt without a collision, it’s almost always a compensation issue.
Think of it like driving a car with misaligned tires. If a player can’t bend or stabilize properly through their hips and ankles during dryland training, they can’t produce power correctly on the ice.

Their body won’t just give up, though, it will adapt. It forces other joints to take on extra stress to get the job done. Over a long, grueling season, those small compensations lead to major breakdowns.
The good news? It’s fixable.

We assess single-leg stability off the ice to pinpoint these mechanical weaknesses before they turn into injuries. Fixing how your athlete moves off the ice is often the single biggest factor in keeping them playing a full, healthy season.

💡 Key adjustments made for parents:

Explained “compensation”: Parents might not know fitness jargon, so the posts frame it as “the body cheating or overworking” to generate power.
Connected gym work to ice performance: Clearly showed how a movement limitation on land directly impacts their kid on the rink.

Focused on the outcome: Emphasized staying healthy and playing a full season, which is every sports parent’s top priority.

Sound on. 🔊😂

Babak breaks down the 3 non-negotiable fundamentals every athlete needs to keep performing at a high level week in and week out:

1️⃣ NUTRITION: Fueling the work properly so your muscles actually repair and adapt.
2️⃣ HYDRATION: Replacing electrolytes, not just drinking plain water after sweating hard.
3️⃣ SLEEP: Where your central nervous system actually recovers and rebuilds.

Stop leaving your recovery to chance.
