Carlson Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Lineage:
Considered by many as the most successful Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academy in the history of the sport, the Carlson Gracie Jiu Jitsu Team was the true juggernaut of competitive BJJ in the 1970’s, 1980’s and early 1990’s. A team remembered for big names such as “Serginho de Niteroi”, Amauri Bitetti, Ricardo De La Riva, Ricardo Liborio, Paulo Filho and many, many others,

the Carlson Gracie Academy was also the flagship for innovation in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, having added strong trends such as group classes, a strong focus on sport BJJ and the use of animals in the academy’s logo(s), all ideas coming from the leader of the team, the late Master Carlson Gracie. We are proud to award little Lyla with her grey/white belt!

Lyla is the middle of three young sisters who train alongside their father and assistant coach, Jamie. What these girls may lack in size, they more than make up for in personality, determination, and persistence.

Whether she’s in the best position or the toughest spot on the mat, Lyla can always be found wearing a huge smile - happy, positive, and resilient. We’re incredibly excited to watch her continue to grow and progress on her jiu-jitsu journey.

Congratulations, Lyla! 🎉🥋

One of the hardest parts of being a coach is coaching your own children. Finding the balance between knowing when to push and when to ease up is a constant tightrope walk—one that’s easy to misstep.

Liam doesn’t naturally possess an aptitude for aggression or timing, but what he lacks there, he more than makes up for with intelligence, compassion, and personality. Even so, he has continued to push past his physical limitations and dig deep to become the best version of himself. He has committed to weight training, invested in weekly private lessons to address gaps in his game, and put in tremendous effort to overcome his emotions and self-doubt.

Today, I am incredibly proud to award Liam his yellow belt. After six years of training, he is proving that genuine achievements are never given freely—they are earned.

Amazing work, Liam.

Watching your child grow in confidence changes everything.

In this reel, Casey’s dad Andrew shares what jiu jitsu has brought into their lives at Boa Mixed Martial Arts — from focus, confidence, and resilience for Casey, to Andrew finally deciding to step on the mats himself to keep fit for his family.

What started as a kids class turned into shared goals and quality time that actually builds something transferable into the rest of daily life. Jiu jitsu isn’t just for kids or adults — it’s a place where families grow together, one class at a time. 🥋

If you’ve been thinking about getting your child started… don’t be surprised if you end up training too.

Week 2 starts Monday, January 12 👊

This week’s curriculum is all about adaptability, control, and building a guard that works for your game - no matter your age, experience level or body type. Same system, tailored approach, tangible progress.

Show up. Train smart. Level up together.

At Boa, kids don’t just learn jiu jitsu.

They build confidence, discipline, and lasting friendships.

They learn respect, self-control, and how to keep going when things get tough.

Progress is merit-based - earned through effort, focus, and consistency, and guided by expert coaches who truly care.

It’s a place where kids feel supported, challenged, and proud of who they’re becoming.

Skills that last a lifetime… and a community that feels like family. 🥋

This is a program for parents who want more than an activity. It’s for families who value character, accountability, and real development.
