Member Spotlight series with ANGELA TERREBLANCHE.
Angela trains with us three times a week and is incredibly focussed when it comes to her goals and improving her strength. She was also our Client of the Year for 2025!
Angela has never shied away from hard work in the gym, and she has applied this tenacity and curiosity to trying out new interests. In this Member Spotlight, we ask her about her amazing freediving and photography adventures.
Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you first got into photography and free diving:
"I’ve been through a couple of big life transitions over the last few years, one was rupturing my Achilles. Although I eventually got back to running, my relationship with it had changed and it didn’t give me as much joy as it had once had. It had been a big part of my life and so I got curious about what else was out there, particularly things that gave me a chance to explore my creativity.
I’d always enjoyed taking photos, usually little things I noticed or found interesting along the way, and I wondered what it might look like if I took it more seriously. Then I came across a photography trip that combined land-based and underwater photography and thought, why not? Nothing like jumping into both at the same time!
Through underwater photography, I came across freediving. I somewhat randomly signed up for my first course, initially because I thought it would give me more confidence in the water as I’ve been a bit anxious in open water in the past. I also figured it would be a useful skill if underwater photography was something I wanted to do more of.
And the rest, as they say, is history and it’s opened up a whole new world for me."
