The club would like to extend a huge congratulations to past player Nick Weckert on his induction into the Great Southern Football League Hall of Fame last night.
Like many players of his era Nick was also an outstanding cricketer over the summer months. Nick played predominantly for the Finniss Cricket Club with stints at EFS and Ashbourne before finishing his playing career at Strathalbyn.
Playing at a time when structured junior cricket was minimal he played U16 cricket for Finniss from 1970/71 through until 1974/75 and is listed as taking a catch in a Finniss A Grade match in 1971. While not wanting to give too much away he may not have been double figures in age at the time!
A highlight for Nick was playing A Grade cricket for Finniss alongside his father Hartley, and brothers Roger and Stephen.
In Nick’s final season of cricket at Strath in 2009/10 he played in the C Grade side alongside other legends such as Rob Donaldson. Nick took 19 wickets at 7.11 that season only surpassed by the 21 wickets taken by youngster Joel Donaldson who just pipped him for the bowling trophy.
Nick has taken a total of 99 wickets for the Stallions at the fine average of 13.45 - we might need to get him out for a cameo to bring up the 💯
Congrats Nick, a fine all round sportsman on the field and even better person off it 👏
