The club would like to extend a huge congratulations to past player Nick Weckert on his induction into the Great Southern Football League Hall of Fame last night.

Like many players of his era Nick was also an outstanding cricketer over the summer months. Nick played predominantly for the Finniss Cricket Club with stints at EFS and Ashbourne before finishing his playing career at Strathalbyn.

Playing at a time when structured junior cricket was minimal he played U16 cricket for Finniss from 1970/71 through until 1974/75 and is listed as taking a catch in a Finniss A Grade match in 1971. While not wanting to give too much away he may not have been double figures in age at the time!

A highlight for Nick was playing A Grade cricket for Finniss alongside his father Hartley, and brothers Roger and Stephen.

In Nick’s final season of cricket at Strath in 2009/10 he played in the C Grade side alongside other legends such as Rob Donaldson. Nick took 19 wickets at 7.11 that season only surpassed by the 21 wickets taken by youngster Joel Donaldson who just pipped him for the bowling trophy.

Nick has taken a total of 99 wickets for the Stallions at the fine average of 13.45 - we might need to get him out for a cameo to bring up the 💯

Congrats Nick, a fine all round sportsman on the field and even better person off it 👏

Over the past two days club president and junior coach Michael Cutting attended the Cricket Australia Coaching Summit at the Adelaide Oval.

The Summit provided a first experience for participants of the new CA Coach Development Model. The framework includes the core pillars of coaching practice, player development and learning environments.

There were some outstanding presenters across the two days with a highlight being a batting in context session delivered by former test captain Greg Chappell. Greg reflecting on his childhood backyard cricket games with his brothers and the importance of “learning to love the contest”.

A huge thank you to the team at SACA Coaching & Pathways for supporting regional coaches to attend the summit.

🏏 CHANGING OF THE GUARD!

Ahead of the club’s AGM in July, three long standing committee members have advised that they won’t be seeking re-election to their roles.

Current President, Michael Cutting will vacate the position that he has held since 2017 after previously being the club secretary since 2005.

Current Secretary, Chris Hanley will be stepping down after taking on the role in 2017. Hanley has recently taken on an executive committee role with AFL Masters SA.

The third departure will be the club’s current Child Safe Officer, Tim Smith who will be relocating to Tasmania for work in July. Tim has also been pivotal in the clubs very successful vine pruning fundraiser for the past eight years

Outgoing President Michael Cutting said the departures “presented an opportunity for others to step up into leadership roles and positively shape the future direction of the club”.

“Chris and I, along with the continuing committee members are all willing to assist those that take on the roles to ensure a smooth transition”.

Any person interested in getting involved is encouraged to come along to the AGM (details below).

🥇 ASSOCIATION AWARD WINNERS

It was a busy evening last night so we are a little late getting around to acknowledging our association award winners.

Bailey Matuhina took out the U16 batting award after joining us as part of Bremer Callington Cricket Club Incorporated. He had a dominant season with the bat where he was only dismissed twice. Bailey was also very narrowly beaten in the best all rounder award, finishing second by just three points.

In the A Grade Brayden Gaiter took out the leading bowler award for the second time in the past three seasons finishing with a big haul of 37 wickets.

While not bringing home trophies we also had a number of players finish in the top five in awards which is a great achievement, including:
Henry Blatchford (U16 batting)
Luke Cousins (A Grade batting)
Ryan Harvey (C Grade bowling)
Shane Stevenson (C Grade all rounder)

Matt Harris, Sam Teakle and Brayden Gaiter were also acknowledged for being members of the successful AEHCA Meyer Shield team.

Thanks again to all our helpers on the night and well done to the Alexandra & Eastern Hills Cricket Association on another successful season of community cricket.

🙏 VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION

It was a pleasure to the host the Alexandra & Eastern Hills Cricket Association presentation dinner last night at the Strathalbyn Football Club.

They say team work makes the dream work and that definitely came to the fore last night.

As usual Andrew ‘Bundy’ Roberts led from the front cooking up a storm with the Eastern Falcons girls swapping their premiership medals for aprons and doing a great job.

Thanks to our Stallions and Fillies behind the scenes that assisted not only last night but also with pre dinner set up on Monday night.

A shout out also to Dave Lewis for his work behind the bar.

Well done to all award winners and our club award winners will be highlighted in a post tonight.

🙏❤️🤍💜💙
