Transitioning to 2 children has been a lot easier postpartum than it was having my first.
This time around, I have a baby with a lot lower needs. My first was difficult, didn't sleep, had some health concerns and even now as a toddler, he is often really difficult. We got all the advice, nothing worked and I was often left feeling like I was failing him and myself.
This time I prepared for the worst of the sleepless nights, months of postnatal depression and anxiety and endless crying. It has been an amazing journey these last (nearly) 4 weeks. I was more prepared for birth and recovery and knew what newborn life could be like. This time I opted for private midwife care that has been consistent so I have had more regular and compassionate support. I have a baby that has lower needs and sleeps! Not through the night but in 2-3 hour regular stretches and it makes the world of difference.
I am a more confident mother, and also, I'm doing all the same things as a parent and this time I just have a baby with lower needs. Babies are hard work, but some are so much harder than others!
I'm feeling so grateful that I can look back and know that I wasn't doing everything wrong the first time. My baby wasn't broken and didn't need to be fixed. We just had a hard time and often just parented differently based on what worked and felt right at the time.
If you are having a difficult time in your parenting journey, know that you will find what works best for you eventually, and the support you need is out there, don't give up looking! You might just have a baby with higher needs than others. You might just be struggling to find your footing as a new parent. Just know that you are doing your best, whatever that looks like and that is enough! You are doing a great job, just keep going, one day, or one hour or one minute at a time 💕💕💕
Please reach out if you are struggling, would like a chat, or need to get out of the house. I'm happy to catch up for coffee or at a playground to be a listening ear or help you find the support you need!
(Also I can't wait to get classes back up and running soon so we can all get out of the house and have some fun!)
