Trigger point dry needling is a fantastic adjunct therapy to add to your post surgery rehab (with exercise being the primary therapy of course!) 💪
Here are some general guidelines that we follow:
Post spinal surgery:
- 6 weeks before needling muscles around the spinal region
- 12 weeks before needling muscles in the spinal region eg. Erectors, multifidus.
Post rotator cuff repair:
- Wait until the patient is out of their sling
- 6-8 weeks before gradually including muscles such as rotator cuff, scapula muscles, biceps, deltoid
Post knee scope/reconstruction/replacement:
- 4-6 weeks before needling in more distal regions eg gluteals, calf, hamstrings
- 8-10 weeks before needling in the lower quadriceps region
Post hip scope/replacement:
- 4-6 weeks before needling more distal regions eg spinal segments, hamstrings, quadriceps
- 8-10 weeks before needling in the localised muscles eg gluteals and deep posterior hip region
