The 2026/27 Victorian Sportfishing Championship got underway this weekend with Round 1 hosted by Melton Sportfishing Club at the Crater Lakes near Camperdown.
With a prediction of winds increasing and a shower or three in the afternoon, it was an early start for competitors.
The wind did get up, forcing some smaller boats to return to their trailer and revise their plans for the remainder of day one.
Saturday finished with a great tea and socialising at tje event base.
Sunday started with more wind and enough rain to convince many to stay indoors.
Congratulations to all winners, with Portland's Michelle Freeman coming out on top pointscorer in the Female Angler section and the Longest Brown Trout landed.
Well done to the team at Melton on another great event and we look forward to catching up with everyone at the Presentation night in Geelong or Round 2 in October.
