First day of solid energy at this place in a while.

2nd surf, a couple hours in…eyes starting to sting.

Fatigue set in an hour prior. It doesn’t take long to realise that months of surfing the shorey wasn’t enough to tame the resilience required to enter this place.

All of a sudden you’re being pinned to the bottom, held by a majestic force that you forgot existed.

Finally you surface.

Gasping for air, you look up.

Lines of ocean walls perfectly spread along the point, marching toward you - unloading on shallow rocks, like an army of mechanical soldiers.

You’d almost call it a phenomenon.

It was worth the long drive.

2025 TOP SPECIALIST FIRM / 2025 LAW FIRM LEADERS OF THE YEAR.

Kudos to the team at New Chapter Legal.

Honesty. Integrity. Selflessness. Respect for the law.

Those qualities have been in painfully short supply throughout this dispute.

But New Chapter Legal ultimately chose something more important than dangerous gambles and unlawful swipes at victory.

They chose integrity, safety and protection - for their client and for the law they represent.

Never judge a lawyer solely by their wins. Judge them by what they are prepared to do when winning conflicts with the law and their principles.

I rustled a few feathers last week when I confirmed that their departure from the proceeding marked my claim for relatively small damages. I didn’t ask for much, out of respect.

Their boss responded strongly. At first I thought his reaction was bizarre. Later I saw it differently: he was a boss standing up for his people.

I respect that.

AI is a tool. It is not a barrister or solicitor. It does not replace judgment, experience, procedure or advocacy.

Literature with Miss Perkins, Legal Studies with Mr Callaghan, English, Science and Maths all helped build pieces of the foundation. But the real advancement comes from repetition - for us, particularly the Retail Leases Act.

What people don’t see are the hundreds of hours behind the evidence, chronology, research, revisions, submissions and responses.

New Chapter Legal showed something important: sometimes protecting a client means knowing when not to keep pushing them toward a dead end.

I even told them that if they accepted my mercy offer, I had a client for them.

That client was me.

I still reserve my position concerning their earlier involvement. Six months is a long time in a dispute where serious damage occurred, including the stock issue. That history cannot simply disappear.

But neither should an honourable ending.

New Chapter Legal ultimately made a selfless decision. Throughout my dealings with them, they remained restrained, professional and non-aggressive. They showed the qualities expected of lawyers practising in Australia.
