Carbohydrates have had a bit of a bad reputation over the years, but our bodies actually have some pretty important jobs for them!
Carbs are one of our body's main sources of energy. They help fuel our muscles when we exercise, while our brain also relies heavily on glucose for energy to help us think, concentrate and get through the day.
Our bodies can even store some carbohydrate in our muscles and liver as glycogen, ready to use when we need extra energy, including during a workout.
And carbs aren't just bread and pasta! Fruit, vegetables, wholegrains, legumes and dairy can all provide carbohydrates, along with other important nutrients such as fibre, vitamins and minerals.
So rather than thinking of carbohydrates as something we need to avoid, think of them as one of the ways we fuel our bodies for all the things we ask them to do, whether that's a BFF class, a walk, a busy day at work or simply everyday life.
