6 ladies represented Highercombe Golf Club @ a Mid North event @ Balaklava on Friday.
Congratulations to Aimee Feltham for winning the Champion of Champions.

Thanks to Balaklava for hosting another great Mid North event.

The weather was hot at Balaklava Golf Course today, and so was the golf (well, at times, anyway...)
The Mid North Ladies Champion of Champions and Salvers were played with close results all 'round. Well done to Glenys and Trish for surviving their first MN Championship event (with help from Chook!)
Champion of Champions winner (over 27 holes) was Aimee Feltham of Highercombe with 131 (from Balaklava's Louise Michael 134).
The Silver, Bronze and C Grade Salvers were played over 18 holes, with results based on gross and nett winners first, then runners up in each section.
So in the Silver, the gross winner was Alex Nicholls of Clare with 83 off the stick, nett winner was Louise Michael of Balaklava with 73, then gross r/up was Aimee Feltham on 89, and nett r/up was Tracey Moody of Clare 77.
Bronze winner with 92 off the stick was Blyth's Kerryn Mugge, and nett winer was Glenys Pierce of Clare with 78. Gross r/up was Balaklava's Tracey Summers 96, and nett r/up was Clare's Heather Grace 78.
In the C Grade stableford, Wendy Schutz from Barossa Valley won with 32 points on a countback from Balaklava's Kate Green, third was Jane Hayes of Highercombe 32 on yet another countback from Clare's Belinda Dare.
A huge thank you to the volunteer course crew who have the course looking AMAZING, and the greens were slick and tricky!

Due to the amount of rain we have already received today, along with further rain forecast for tomorrow, the course will be closed tomorrow, Tuesday 25th August.

At this stage, we are planning to reopen on Wednesday, however carts will not be permitted until further notice.

Based on the current forecast and expected conditions, we are confident that carts will be able to return by the weekend.

We appreciate everyone’s understanding and will provide further updates if conditions change.

Cart update

Carts will be allowed back out Monday 17th of August and people MUST follow instructions on cart window at all times, under NO circumstances are carts allowed on fairways.
If everyone can stick to the rules we will be able to keep carts in use, if people cannot follow instructions they will be banned again

⛳ Superintendent’s Course Update

Course conditions are certainly challenging at the moment, with the weather limiting our ability to carry out some of our normal winter maintenance practices.

We have received over 110mm of rain in the past week, on top of more than 200mm throughout the previous month. While the rainfall is fantastic for our dams and the long-term health of the course, the amount of moisture in the profile is making it extremely difficult to get machinery onto the course without causing damage.

One of the biggest impacts has been our ability to carry out our normal winter cutting practices, including keeping our greens at their usual presentation standards. A few of our greens also have drainage challenges, and when we have a week like this where there is very little opportunity for the surfaces to dry out, it makes maintenance particularly difficult.

There are also some maintenance practices that we simply can’t delay. Nutrient applications and fungicide applications are important for maintaining turf health and preventing disease, and on occasions these applications may mean machinery has to access the greens while they are still soft. This can unfortunately leave the occasional tyre mark for a day or two and may have some impact on competitions. We understand this isn’t ideal, but at times it is a necessary part of protecting the turf and keeping the course healthy in the long term.

We have also made the decision not to allow golf carts onto the course this weekend. This decision has been made purely to protect the course from unnecessary traffic while conditions are so wet. Unfortunately, when carts have been allowed out in similar conditions in the past, we have seen damage occur from traffic that could have been avoided.

On a very positive note, there is a massive silver lining to all this rain, our dams are now full for the first time in four years!

As many of our members know, the past few years have been extremely challenging when it comes to managing our water resources. To finally have our dams full heading into the warmer months is a huge win for the club and the course.

We are looking forward to putting this water to good use and delivering excellent playing conditions right throughout summer.

A big thank you to our members for your patience and understanding while we work through these challenging conditions. The team is continuing to do everything we can to keep the course healthy and presentable while protecting it for the seasons ahead.

Due to how wet the course is. NO CARTS will be allowed on course Friday 14th of August Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th of August another update will be put out Sunday at 5pm
