What to bring:
• Comfortable athletic style clothes, you don’t need a uniform gi to start off with
• Water bottle with plenty of water!
• IF you have them, boxing gloves/mitts/insteps/mouthguard, if you don’t, that’s fine for now
What to expect:
All ages and abilities welcome, no bookings needed, just come along and approach any of the black belts
We focus on building a structured, disciplined, inclusive environment throughout all of our training, please be punctual and ready to participate.
Joining in for the first time can definitely be intimidating, if your child is struggling with nerves, then Mum or Dad is welcome to jump in and have a go with them (you might even like it!)
Class starts by lining up in rank order, bowing in, warm ups and stretching
We’ll then train some different elements of karate, partnering up or breaking off into small groups as needed.
The different elements include:
• Technical strikes, blocks, stances and combinations
• Punching and kicking against pads and kick shields
• Self-defense moves against various types of attack
• Kata, choreographed sequences of moves that display techniques and represent battle scenarios
• Sparring, the goal here is not to hurt each other or “win”, but to practice the strikes and blocks on a moving target, learning to react and build confidence under pressure
If you would like to come along and just watch a session before getting involved, that's ok too, but it's WAY more fun to jump in! 😁👍
