📣 SHOOSH FOR KIDS ⚽

This week’s reminder is simple: Let coaches do the coaching.

Kids learn best when they can focus on enjoying the game, listening to their coach, and building confidence on the field. Too many voices from the sidelines can be overwhelming and take the fun out of sport.

Before calling out during a game, think:
✅ Is it positive?
✅ Is it encouraging?
✅ Does it help the kids enjoy the game?

Support from the sidelines should lift players up, not add pressure. Let’s work together to create a fun, safe and supportive environment for every child in football.

This week for , we’re recognising the incredible volunteers who keep junior sport running every single week 🙌

From coaches, managers to canteen helpers, ground staff and committee members - community football simply wouldn’t happen without them.

Most volunteers give up their own time because they love the game and want kids to have the chance to play, learn and grow in a positive environment ⚽️

Before reacting from the sidelines, remember:
💜 Volunteers are doing their best
💜 Positive support helps everyone enjoy the game
💜 Respectful behaviour creates a better environment for our kids.

Think before you speak and help make junior sport a place where everyone feels valued and supported.

⚽️ As we head into Round 2 of junior football, it’s time for an important reminder… 🤫

Our sidelines play a big part in shaping the game-day experience for young players. When kids play in a calm, positive and supportive environment, amazing things happen:

✅ They build confidence
✅ They enjoy the game more
✅ They’re more willing to try new skills
✅ They learn resilience and teamwork
✅ They stay in sport longer and develop a lifelong love of the game.

The best thing we can cheer for is effort, sportsmanship and fun!

This weekend, support from the sidelines with encouragement, positivity… and when in doubt — Shoosh! 🤫⚽️

⚽️ Round One is done and dusted — and what a fantastic start to junior soccer! 🙌

As we head into the rest of the season, it’s the perfect time for an important reminder… SHOOSH! 🤫

May is Shoosh for Kids month, a collaborative initiative between the Office of Sport and sporting partners, encouraging positive sideline behaviour at junior sport.

Going into Round 2, we’re asking everyone to Shoosh for our Referees 👏⚽

Without them, there is no game. Many of our referees are young, learning, and giving their time so our kids can play the sport they love. They deserve encouragement, respect, and support — not criticism from the sidelines.

✅ Cheer for effort
✅ Applaud good sportsmanship
✅ Respect the whistle
❌ Leave the coaching (and yelling!) at home

Shoosh for our Referees. Shoosh for our Kids. 💙🤫

🚨⚽️ Season 2026 officially kicks off this weekend — who’s excited?! 😁🙌

From our tiniest future superstars to our senior legends, we can’t wait to see everyone out on the pitch enjoying the beautiful game.

A quick reminder on match durations for each age group is in the table below 👇
⏱️ Half time should be no less than 5 minutes and no greater than 10 minutes.

A few handy season tips for players, coaches and families:
⚽️ No corner kicks are taken in U5–U9 matches.
⚽️ In U5–U8, all opponents must stay behind halfway during goal kicks (coaches/managers, please help position players correctly).
⚽️ In U10, opponents must stay behind the 25m line (marked with cones or similar) for goal kicks. The rostered club is responsible for marking this before kick-off.
⚽️ No goalkeepers in U5–U7 matches.
⚽️ In U8–U11, goal kicks are taken from inside the goalkeeper’s box.
⚽️ From U12 through to All Age, FIFA rules apply.

Most importantly…
👏 Respect the refs
👏 Encourage all players
👏 Enjoy the game
👏 Have fun

Here’s to a fantastic 2026 season — good luck to every team this weekend! 🔥⚽️
