Vale Sophie Bowen

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Sophie Bowen, a highly respected and esteemed Life Member of Griffith Pony Club.

Sophie’s contribution to our club, the equestrian community and generations of riders across Griffith and the surrounding district is immeasurable.

In the late 1960s, Sophie established the Griffith-Benerembah Pony Club, one of two pony clubs originally operating in Griffith. In 1975, Sophie and her husband Jim moved the club to our current grounds, establishing the home of Griffith Pony Club where we continue to operate today.

Together, Sophie and Jim were instrumental in shaping Griffith Pony Club over many decades. Their dedication and commitment live on through the Bowen Shield and Talina Trophy, two longstanding events and important parts of our club’s history and traditions.

Sophie was involved in all aspects of the equestrian community, from Griffith Pony Club and Zone 21 to judging, instructing and mentoring. With a particular passion for dressage and show riding, Sophie made an enormous contribution to riders and horses alike.

Sophie was also instrumental in fostering the relationship between Griffith Pony Club and Riding for the Disabled. Her willingness to help countless families find the right horse and rider combinations created opportunities, partnerships and experiences that have had a lasting impact.

For so many past and present members, Sophie was a significant part of their pony club journey. Her generosity, knowledge, encouragement and dedication helped shape not only our club, but the experiences and fond memories that so many carry today.

The foundations Sophie and Jim helped build remain at the heart of Griffith Pony Club. Their legacy lives on in our grounds, our traditions and most importantly, the generations of riders and families who have been part of our club.

On behalf of Griffith Pony Club, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Sophie’s family and friends.

Thank you, Sophie, for everything you gave to our club and our equestrian community. You will always be remembered as a much-loved and valued part of the Griffith Pony Club family.

Thanks so much to everyone who came out to help at the Griffith Pony Club working bee. It was lovely to have everyone together and get a few more jobs done around the grounds.

The Polkinghorne family kindly donated lunch, and the Hume/Power family with the help from Shannon Williams have been busy building the verandah. Thanks to the West family, Lisa and Shannon Williams and Vilma Ballestin for all the time and effort you continue to put into the club, and to Tara Ceccato for your hard work and expert help with the landscaping.

We also want to give Green Gecko a special mention for donating trees for the grounds. Such a generous contribution, and very much appreciated.

Thanks again everyone. There’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes, and we’re grateful for all your help.

We’ll have to remember to get a full group photo earlier in the day in future 😊

A sausage sizzle lunch will be provided for all those helping on the day!

September Rally

TIME ADJUSTMENT: 9am-1pm

This Sunday the 27th is our September Rally please note that due to instructor availability and the warmer weather leading up to the rally we have brought the starting time forward to 9am.

Please remember to keep horses and yourselves well hydrated and bring plenty of fresh drinking water!
