When did the scale became the default measure of progress?

It must be because it’s the easiest number to check.

But it’s not the most useful one.

Weight fluctuates by one to two kilos daily based on:

Water,
Food,
Sleep, and
Stress.

A hard training session alone can push it up temporarily as muscles retain water during recovery.

So you do everything right and the number goes the wrong way.

Most people take that as evidence the approach isn’t working. They stop. They restart. The cycle continues.

But the things that actually signal progress:

Clothes fitting differently,
Energy lasting longer,
Strength increasing,
Sleep improving…

These don’t show up on a scale.

They show up in how you feel and function day to day.

The hardest part of getting fit isn’t the training.

It’s the ten minutes before you leave the house.

The internal negotiation.

The voice that says you’re too tired, too busy, that Monday is a better day to start.

That negotiation is exhausting in a way the actual session never is!

And the longer you stay in it, the harder it gets.

Not because the gym becomes more daunting but because lack of action builds its own negative momentum.

Every day you don’t go makes the next day slightly easier to skip.

But the first session BREAKS that.

Not because of what it does to your body, but because it stops the pattern.

And that makes the next session a slightly easier decision, and the one after that easier again.

The hardest rep you’ll ever do is the first one.

Everything after it gets easier!

Leg Extensions Right/Wrong! ✅❌

❌ Seat too far back, hips lifting off as you extend
âś… Seat adjusted so the back of the knees sit at the edge of the pad

❌ Swinging the weight up using momentum
âś… Controlled extension, quads doing the work from the bottom up

❌ Stopping short of full extension at the top
✅ Full lockout at the top, that’s where the quad is fully contracted

❌ Letting the weight drop fast on the way down
âś… Slow on the descent, lower the weight with control

❌ Going too heavy and compensating with the upper body
âś… Light enough to feel the quad working through the full range

Leg extensions isolate the quads in a way most compound movements can’t. Keep the weight honest and focus on the contraction at the top!

A lot of people wait until they’re in better shape before joining a gym.

It’s one of the most common things we hear. And it’s completely understandable given how fitness is marketed, before and afters, transformation photos, people already well into their journey.

It can feel like there’s a version of yourself you need to reach before you’re even allowed to show up.

There isn’t!

The gym isn’t a reward for already being fit. It’s the mechanism that gets you there.

Waiting until you’re ready is the same logic as waiting until you’re clean enough to have a shower.

But the only version of you that needs to walk through the door is the one that exists right now.

Most people measure their progress using the scale.

But it’s actually one of the least useful tools.

Weight alone tells you nothing about what’s changing in your body.

Two people can weigh exactly the same and look, feel, and perform completely differently depending on how much of that weight is muscle versus fat.

More importantly, the scale actively misleads people in the times when it matters most.

Building muscle while losing fat, )which is exactly what good training produces) can cause the scale to stall.

Then most people interpret that as failure and change what’s working.

When in reality they were making the best progress possible.

A body composition scan removes that confusion entirely.

Body fat percentage,
Muscle mass,
Where you’re carrying it, and
How it’s shifting month to month.

Actual data, not a number that fluctuates based on how much water you drank yesterday.

Progress IS happening before the mirror shows it.

The scan shows you what the scale never will.

When people decide to get back into training, the instinct is almost always to go hard from the get go.

Six sessions a week.
Cut everything out.
Early mornings.
Maximum effort.

It feels like the right response to however long they’ve been away from it.

But that approach only works for two weeks, not two years.

And two weeks of unsustainable effort followed by burnout and a long break is one of the most common cycles in fitness.

The body doesn’t respond to intensity alone. It responds to repeated stimulus over time.

Three solid sessions a week, done consistently for six months, will produce results that six brutal sessions a week for a fortnight never could.

Consistency isn’t the boring option.

It’s the one that actually works.
