Great conditions for the run today and the word on the street was that Others were quietly confident of another teams win.
Our winner today, Cam Curry, got the Others off to a great start and his nearest, and very close, opposition was another Other Dan Green, who came in second.
Roger Pilkington, who is a bit concerned about his beloved Adelaide Crows, then fired the first salvo for the Retirees. He was quickly followed by Peter Clarke, meaning that Others and Retirees were "all but!" Claire Aubrey, who has been in scintillating form over recent weeks then swept down the finishing straight to give Others another win. The next two eligible runners were also Others, so it wasn't even close.
For those among us who sometimes feel a little burnt out with regular racing, be aware that the next event that Jim White competes in will be number 8,500 for our premier jokester!
Thanks again to Kate and Mark for the snaps.

Fund Raiser for Nepal

Our run this week will be a fund raiser for Nepal. All fees paid will be donated to the Red Cross Appeal.
Your fees will be updated on the sheet and reflect the amount that you have paid, so it is a good time to get up to date and even in front

Lloyd would be devastated by the news from Nepal. He spent so much of his life tirelessly working for the benefit of so many friends in Nepalese communities.
He told me many times that he was happiest when contributing to his "extended family."
The BBQ Stakes family will act on his behalf with news of our plans to follow in the next few days.

We knew we would encounter a few wet patches today and the usual spots didn't disappoint with one shown below.
My expectation was that an experienced Staker might triumph today and Peter Thomson did just that. The finishing burst by Peter had to be seen to be believed. He covered the last 5 metres in a time rarely seen in the 2495 iterations of the Stakes!
Axel Godeck introduced some novel twists and turns as he finished and yet still avoided any ACL or Meniscus injuries as he came in second.
Brendan Boyd actually raced across the line to the amazement of the slowly gathering crowd.
Thanks again to Kate and Mark for the photos.
Dolly Parton would have been pleased with our behaviour today.

The track has dried out a bit since this was taken!

I think we can safely call today's run "The Dolly Parton Memorial Run."
In honour of Dolly, make sure any overdue library books are returned pronto!

The weather god turned it on today, as She often does, and an eager field of 40 odd, in some cases very odd, set off AND finished today.
Our winner, and best hat awardee as well, was the indefatigable Peter Foster. Peter is the tireless organiser of the Lakes Stakes, in Tuggeranong on Tuesdays, and he is always delighted to receive a Runners Shop Voucher instead of giving them out.
Our runner up was Kerrie Muir and she was followed by Claire Aubrey.
Team Murphy circulated discretely again to obtain more priceless snaps for our consumption.
