Running isn’t always about being the quickest person on the course. More often than not, progress comes from consistency, resilience and the willingness to keep turning up long after others have stopped. ❤️💛💚

Pacing threshold runs correctly is one of the most important aspects of getting the benefit from them. Because this intensity sits between easy and hard, it can be easy to drift too far in either direction.

Using effort as a guide is often the most reliable approach. Threshold running should feel controlled but challenging. You should be working hard enough that conversation becomes limited, but not so hard that you feel out of control.

Breathing should be steady but deeper, and you should feel like you could maintain the effort for a set period rather than pushing to exhaustion.

If the effort feels too comfortable, the stimulus is reduced. If it feels too intense, it becomes unsustainable and shifts away from the intended purpose.

Using RPE allows you to adjust for factors such as fatigue, terrain, and conditions, helping you stay within the correct intensity.

Simple takeaway: threshold pace should feel controlled and sustainable, not all-out.
