Lockleys Riding Club Inc

Lockleys Riding Club Inc LRC manages the agistment of Horses on Breakout Creek, River Torrens, as well as fighting to keep a horse presence with the planned wetland project

The Lockleys Riding Club was initially formed by our current patron Mrs Betty Eastgate in the 1970's to lease land from the Lockleys Oval Trust to use for horse riding. In 1984 as part of the Linear Park development the members of the club who were agisting horses on the river decided to incorporate the club to manage the lease of Breakout Creek for horse agistment. In the 1980's LRC hosted severa

l horse shows on Lockleys Oval which were always popular in the horse community. Today, the club still operates as a not for profit agistment management group, supporting members who agist their horses. All horses are privately owned, and agisted at the cost of the individual owners. For owners to gain an agistment position, they must apply to the Club. As horse numbers are limited for land management purposes, the club maintains a waiting list for these applications. As always, we appreciate the support of the local and wider community in maintaining the agistment of horses at Breakout Creek. This area provides an unparalleled facility which promotes horse riding, well being and healthy activities in the Western Adelaide suburbs. You may be aware that with the Wetland developments that have occurred already our agistment area has been made significantly smaller despite attempts to have the horses coexist with the wetlands. As Stage 3 of this development is now being planned we will be fighting for a coexisting arrangement to maintain a horse presence on Breakout Creek for all of our community to continue to enjoy. Thank you all for your continued support, it is greatly appreciated. We will continue to keep you up to date with any developments. Your feedback and suggestions are also gratefully received. Regards

Thank you Matt for helping us bring this to the attention of our community. We know how much the community love seeing and interacting with the horses in this unique suburban setting, and it would be devastating to lose it..

We are used to finding the odd horse shoe around but this is the first time we have found human shoes! If that pesky fox has taken your shoes on an adventure around the Henley Beach South area, stop by our arena to see if one of these belong to you. Fingers crossed we can get these shoes back to their Cinderella 🥾👟👞👢👡👠🥿

⭐️Do you love seeing the horses along the River Torrens and want to help save their home? ⭐️

Don’t forget to stop and have a chat to the members about the petition we are collecting signatures for. Alternatively if you have not managed to run into us but want to help by signing or collecting signatures yourself, please send us an email and we will send you a copy!

It will have to be an original signature and not an e-signature or facsimile unfortunately, so once you have printed it out and collected signatures from friends and family, please either post to Lockleys Riding Club PO Box 85 West Beach SA 5024 or hand it to one of our members when you’re down enjoying the little piece of country in the city!

We understand this is not at all convenient, but the government has forced us to do a hard copy petition and wont accept an online one, so your understanding and efforts are most appreciated by all our members, two legged and four!
We hope to be able to share the horses with you long into the future 🐴💕

🐴 Ongoing horse presence on Breakout Creek is at risk! The horses need your help...

🐴 The draft proposal has reduced the area for horses to just 25% of the current area, this is not viable for the horses to remain.

🐴 Please help! Complete the online feedback by following the link below & leave a comment in the discussion on this site
