WATERCREST WILD RUN SET TO BRING A FRESH RUNNING EXPERIENCE TO THE UPPER HIGHWAY.

A new 11km and 21km road race will make its debut at Watercrest Mall on Sunday, 14 March 2027, with free race T-shirts and goodie bags for all pre-entered runners.

The Upper Highway running community has an exciting new event to look forward to, with the launch of the 2027 Watercrest Wild Run, a brand-new road-running experience designed to bring people together through sport, fitness and a shared love of the outdoors.

Taking place on Sunday, 14 March 2027, the event will start and finish at Watercrest Mall, providing a convenient and welcoming hub for runners, supporters and families. With two distances on offer — an 11km run and a 21km run — the Watercrest Wild Run aims to cater for a broad range of participants, from recreational runners taking on a new challenge to experienced athletes looking for an exciting addition to their racing calendar.

The Upper Highway is renowned for its beautiful green landscapes, rolling hills and scenic surroundings, providing an ideal setting for a memorable road-running event. Participants can look forward to experiencing the area's natural beauty while enjoying the excitement of race day, the encouragement of fellow runners and the atmosphere of a community coming together.

Race Director Damian Bradley, owner of B-Active Events says the event has been created with the local community firmly in mind.

“We want to bring a race to the people of the Upper Highway and create something new and different for runners in the area. There is a fantastic community here, with people who enjoy being active, spending time outdoors and supporting local initiatives. We want to give them an event they can call their own — something exciting that brings families, running clubs, friends and businesses together.

The organisers, B-Active Events, are targeting between 1,500 and 2,000 runners in the inaugural year. The long-term ambition is to establish the Watercrest Wild Run as a recognised annual fixture that contributes to the area's active lifestyle culture and supports the local community.

Adding further value for participants, all pre-entered runners will receive a free custom-designed race T-shirt and a goodie bag. These race-day extras are part of the organisers' commitment to delivering an enjoyable and rewarding experience from registration through to the finish line.

Online entries will be available through Entry Ninja and Webtickets, and runners are encouraged to secure their places early and be part of this exciting first edition.

Durban is ready to make running history!

Entries are officially open for the inaugural Indian Ocean Marathon Durban, an exciting new event set to bring runners together for an unforgettable journey along one of South Africa’s most beautiful coastlines.

Taking place on Sunday, 4 April 2027, the Indian Ocean Marathon is being created to celebrate everything that makes Durban special: its spectacular Indian Ocean coastline, warm hospitality, vibrant communities and incredible passion for sport.

The event is a joint partnership between B-Active Events and Orcas Running Academy, combining decades of sporting event management experience with a shared commitment to growing running, developing athletes and creating opportunities for the local running community.

The vision is simple: create an outstanding coastal running experience that attracts athletes from across South Africa and beyond, showcases Durban as a destination and builds an event that runners will want to return to year after year.

50KM Indian Ocean Ultra — Start time: 5:00am
30KM Indian Ocean Challenge — Start time: 5:00am

Start / Finish: Sunkist Lawns, opposite Moses Mabhida Stadium

The race village will be based at Sunkist Lawns, opposite Moses Mabhida Stadium, with both the start and finish providing a spectacular focal point for runners and supporters.

The Official Route launch will be done on the 3rd of December.
The proposed route will take athletes along Durban’s coastal corridor, across the uMngeni River and through Durban North and La Lucia towards Umhlanga. Runners will then head back along the coastal roads, passing the Hypermarket before joining Durban’s iconic beachfront promenade for the final journey to the finish.

A shared vision for Durban
Damian Bradley, Race Director and owner of B-Active Events, says the event is about creating something that will have a lasting impact for Durban.
“Durban has an extraordinary coastline and a wonderful running community. We want to bring those two things together to create a world-class event that runners can be proud of. The Indian Ocean Marathon is an opportunity to showcase our city, attract visitors and establish a race that grows in stature every year.”

2026 Midlands Ultra Triathlon – A Race Worth Bringing Back

Some races are more than just a start line, a finish line and a clock. They become part of the fabric of a place, a community and the memories of the athletes who have experienced the race before. The 2026 Midlands Ultra Triathlon was exactly that.

After returning to the spectacular Midmar Dam, there was a special feeling in the air and not just because of the mist! The morning began with a challenging 20-minute delay for the start as we waited for the mist to clear and conditions to become safe for our athletes. We would like to thank every competitor for their patience, understanding and professionalism. Your attitude reminded us of what makes endurance sport so special.

Once racing began, the Midlands came alive.

From the water to the bike route and onto the run, our athletes were supported by an incredible team of water-table crews from Howick High School and route marshals from the Midlands Comunnity College. Their encouragement, energy and commitment helped keep athletes moving when the legs were tired and the challenge became real. To every volunteer and member of the race team, thank you. You were an essential part of this event.

To every competitor who travelled from near and far to be part of the return of this iconic race, thank you for believing in it. Whether you conquered the Sprint, Aquabike, Ultra or tackled the challenge as part of a relay team, you helped write the first chapter of the Midlands Ultra's next generation.

And then there was Midmar Dam.

Being back in this incredible setting was something truly special. The mountains, water, countryside and atmosphere create a race environment that is difficult to replicate. There is something about racing in the Midlands that makes every kilometre feel meaningful.

The 2026 event may have been the beginning of the next chapter, but we believe it is only the beginning.

The Midlands Ultra is back, and it is going to get bigger, stronger every year.

The 2027 Midlands Ultra Triathlon is already booked for 24 October 2027. So bring your friends. Bring your family. Bring your supporters. Bring the determination.

Hey there Trail Runners

We are very excited to announce that we have confirmed our 2027 race date for Saturday the 3rd of July 2026!

Our 2027 Race will include all 3 distances, the 30km, 21km and the 12km events, which make the event open to serious runners and social runners and walkers who want to do the 21km and 12km events walking and running.

The start times have been adjusted slightly to be in-line with the Sunrise and Tides, so the 30km will be starting at 7am, the 21km at 7:30am and the 12km at 8am. The cut off points for all 3 events will be 11:30am at the Port Edward Water Table and 12:30pm at the finish line.

Entries will be limited to 320 entries, 80 Entries for the 30km, 100 entries for the 21km event and 140 entries for the 12km Event. Look out for some exciting additons this this event, as well as some really cool race merchandise in the goodie bags!

2027 Race entries will open on the 3rd of November 2026 with an exciting early bird special of a 30% discount on your race entry for the 2027 event. Look out for the launch in early November.

Adventure, breathtaking scenery, sandy beaches and unforgettable memories await as the Pineapple Express Trail Run returns to the beautiful KZN South Coast on Saturday, 15 August 2026. Proudly recognised as the Official Trail Run of the KZN South Coast, this iconic event promises an experience unlike any other trail race in South Africa.

The Pineapple Express is far more than simply running along beaches and rocky outcrops. It's a spectacular coastal adventure where runners follow pristine beaches, navigate rocky shorelines, splash through river crossings and embrace the ever-changing tides of the Indian Ocean. Every kilometre offers a new challenge and a new view, making every runner feel like they are part of an epic expedition along one of South Africa's most beautiful coastlines.

This year's event has strengthened its community partnerships with two incredible organisations that help make the race even more memorable. The Rotary Club of Uvongo has joined the event as the official route management partner, with volunteers stationed throughout the course to encourage runners, assist with navigation and ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

One of the most exciting moments of the race comes just before the finish, where competitors reach the magnificent Mtamvuna River—the historic natural border that once separated KwaZulu-Natal from the former Transkei. Here, the dedicated team from the Port Edward NSRI will once again play a vital role in helping runners complete their adventure.

Using rescue boats and jet skis, the NSRI crew will safely transport athletes across the river from the beach to the opposite bank before they tackle the final metres to the finish line. It's a thrilling experience that has become one of the most unique and talked-about highlights of the Pineapple Express.

Whether you're an experienced trail runner or simply looking for an unforgettable weekend with family and friends, there's a distance for everyone. The Wave Warrior 30km starts from Ramsgate Beach at 6:30am, offering the ultimate endurance challenge along the coastline. The Tide-Breaker 21km begins at Trafalgar Beach at 7:00am, while the Coastal Cruz 12km, starting from Glenmore Beach at 7:30am, is perfect for newcomers, social runners and families wanting to experience the magic of the event together.

This event has grown from strength to strength every year and being a Highbury Old Boys, I’m proud to give back to my old school that I have so many wonderful memories with.
