Upon closer inspection of the walls at Addington's, one will notice a wide variety of esteemed individuals who have significantly contributed to the world of archery. Notably, Tom Jennings attended one of our bow hunting jamborees in 1981. The shop proudly displays photographs and signatures of Fred Bear, including rare prints sourced directly from the original Bear Archery negatives taken by Dick Lattimer. Other notable figures include Earl and Ann Hoyt, Jim Easton, Matt McPherson, and Ted Nugent, among many others. We hold our sport and its influential figures in high regard, and Frank and Cathy had the privilege of calling many of these legends friends. The framed quote, a cherished keepsake and a testament to Fred's enduring legacy, is a reproduction of a heartfelt page he penned for Frank Jr., with the original safely preserved. We greatly esteemed Fred's kindness, humor, and contributions. There’s a bow Earl Campbell the NFL player signed, Coach Mack Brown and also Ted Nugent. The George Strait bow isn’t on display right now but a photo he sent Frank Sr is - thanking Frank for setting up one of his first Hoyt bows.

Take a moment to study the walls during your next visit. They tell a great story of so many legends and friends !

The third generation of Addington archers is in the house ! Big Frank set his youngest grandson up with a Matthew’s bow and this was the very first shot ! Luke grew up on stage with his father Frank Jr shooting his longbow and recurves. This is his compound - first shot. Like the song says, “It’s a family tradition ..”

Frank has forgotten more about setting up and tuning a bow than most will ever know !

Frank was 15 when he got his first bow, 13 year old Cathy ordered it for him from a magazine. She got her first Bear recurve in the later 1960’s/early 1970’s. Who could have guessed how many thousands of people they would introduce to archery in their lifetime ! They started Addington’s in 1978. Frank Jr. began his exhibition career in 1985. The second generation of Addington archers. Now the grandsons are shooting and both have been on stage with their father marking three generations active in the sport at one time. Such an honor.

Addington’s Bowhunter Shop is lucky to have many families who also have three generations that have been into archery. Since 1978 we have been striving to help as many folks as we can discover accurate archery and how fun our sport is. Thanks for letting us play a tiny role in your family’s adventures in archery. We appreciate it.

Frank & Cathy love to hear from their customers and treat them more like family. Thanks for your continued trust and business. Frank built it one customer at a time. He will always be the master.

Happy birthday George Strait! Frank has set up a few bows for George the past 30 years or so. Happy birthday 🎉

The Archery Hall of Fame ceremony took place this weekend in Missouri and several of our Archery friends were inducted including Jay Barrs (Olympian), Gary Bogner, Ken Beck of Blackwidow bows and Diane Miller of Pennsylvania. Several others also. Many old friends were there. If you visit the Bass Pro headquarters in Springfield, MO you can tour the Archery Hall of Fame on the second floor. Amazing collection… WV’s own Rev Stacy Groscup was inducted in 2000!

Meet William Addington, aka “Wild Bill Addington” from C**n Creek, WV. He was a tough old bird and Frank’s grandpa. Frank Jr sat on his lap as a child. Tough times in those mountains required tough people. He was a timber man. There’s a photo of Bill on the wall at Frank’s work station.

When you’ve been in business as long as we have you consider your employees, customers and friends family. We have been able to see second, third and fourth generations of our customers come in the shop. The shop has changed over the years. In the early days we had archery ranges and practice ranges outdoors that drew big crowds. Some of our events back the day would draw hundreds of shooters for the 3-D events and Cathy’s famous hotdogs.

Sadly since we have been around so long we have also seen some of our original employees and folks that helped us build the shop’s business pass away. Some of our favorite “regulars” have also passed on. We choose to remember the fun, laughter and good times. We hope that you feel loved when you come into the shop because we have always strived to make our place feel like “home”… we wanted our customers to feel they could come by and hang out. Swap deer stories, tell tall tales and laugh in front of the fireplace.

Frank and Cathy have slowed the pace - we don’t see large numbers of employees anymore or five rows of cars like we used to. At one time we were the top
Hoyt account in the nation and in 2003 we were #1 with Matthews Archery. We have proven what we set out to prove. Now it’s a more of a relaxed pace and we do enjoy when you stop by. As long as we are able we will be here to help you. That’s who we are. Thanks for being part of our Addington’s family. Our history is tied in with our former employees, friends and customers who have kept us around since 1978.

Thank you. Come back soon.
Frank & Cathy
