Parents: if you could only fix ONE thing about your kid's routine β screens, snacking, homework procrastination, bedtime β which would you pick?
Trick question. Pick none of them. Pick training instead.
Researchers call exercise a "keystone habit" β one habit that triggers a chain reaction. Studies found that when people start exercising regularly, they also eat better, use their credit cards less, and procrastinate less at work. Nobody told them to do those things. The exercise habit strengthened their self-regulation, and it showed up everywhere.
I've watched this happen with young athletes at Mighty Oak Athletic for over a decade. A kid starts training twice a week, and a month later he's asking what to eat before sessions. She's going to bed earlier on training nights. The homework battles get quieter β and nobody lectured anybody.
