This weekend I had an epiphany.
Have you ever imagined yourself if you didn’t exercise - like at all?
I spent much of Saturday around people I’ve known anywhere from a couple of years to more than a decade. As I looked around, I realized something: many of them are healthier today than they were when I first met them.
I’m not going to say that’s because of the gym. While the gym may have been a resource, the credit belongs to the individual. It comes down to a decision. A decision to invest in yourself and become better.
It’s easy to say, “I’m getting older, so I’m bigger, slower, more injury-prone, and have less energy.”
Sure, those things can happen as we age…. if we allow them to.
But they don’t necessarily HAVE to happen. You can slow the process down and you can fight back.
You can’t let your job, your kids, your schedule, your stress, or life’s endless responsibilities become permanent excuses for neglecting your health. Look at the fittest people you know. Chances are they look younger than their age, move better than the people around them that don’t workout regularly, and probably feel younger too.
Age is simply a number that tells us how long we’ve been on this earth. It doesn’t have to dictate how we look, feel, or perform. Your lifestyle determines that.
The idea that getting older automatically means becoming weak, tired, unhealthy, and limited needs to be retired.
I know people in their 40s, 50s, 60s, and even 70s who can run circles around people 10 to 20 years younger than them.
And here’s what I can guarantee you:
Those people who have made fitness a priority will never tell you they regret taking care of themselves. They’ll never wish they had spent less time exercising, moving, or investing in their health.
If anything, they’ll tell you it’s one of the best decisions they’ve ever made.
Staying fit doesn’t happen by accident. It requires consistency. It requires effort. It requires showing up, even when you don’t feel like it.
You only get one body. You should absolutely make taking care of it a priority, and part of taking care of it means getting the most out of it.
