One of the biggest I've caught in a while and this one has a little jewelry to show off! I caught a tagged 28 inch Wisconsin River walleye! My rod of choice for my jig/plastic presentation was a 7' MLF St. Croix Rods Avid Series paired with a Piscifun Alumix 2000.

Bill, Isaac, and Brad came out to spend the day on Petenwell with me. This was Bill's second trip and he invited first timers Isaac and Brad to enjoy the fall bite on the Wisconsin River.

Plastics were king today. Very few fish on live bait. Best depths were 8-17 fow. Cadence made all the difference between getting bit and scratching your head wondering what those fish were doing down there.

The landed a total of seven legal walleyes today. Only six came home as one of legals was released due to someone already having their limit. All of the white bass caught were released along with a giant 14.5 inch crappie.

One slot at 21 3/4 and one OVER at 28 1/8th!

Both big fish were tagged!!!

Very good day with an annual returning group Ed, Ed, and Ed V (aka Cinco). 3 generations of outdoorsmen who are all hard core fishermen and hunters!

We started the day working some areas near the mouth and up in the river pitching for walleyes and allowing Cinco to cast for muskie. That only yielded some short walleyes.

After that we moved back into the lake and worked some minor structure breaks with a lot of fallen timber. That bite stayed pretty solid for most of mid-day. We moved for the last hour and a half to some deep brush along the channel and picked up a bunch more walleyes along with a couple big white crappies.

Everything caught with rod in hand casting or vertical. Plastics and live bait were about equal. We boated a lot of fish today. Close to 50 with almost everything being walleyes. 8 legal eyes with one 25.5" slot. All the white bass we caught were released.

Water temps were 56-59 degrees.

Today was a little tougher with the high winds blowing from the south. We caught a lot of walleyes but the majority of them were 12-14 inches. We fished a little deeper than what I've been targeting over the last few weeks. Most of our walleyes today were caught vertical jigging big lay downs in 22-26 fow. The perch and gills were in 15-18 fow in big laid down tree tops.

We fished for panfish only to start the morning and then went to chasing walleyes by 10:30.

I haven't been out since last Saturday due to some health issues. Hopefully I should be good to go for the remainder of the open water season.

Today I had a couple guys, Chris & Chris, who have joined me a bunch of times over the last few years. They are an absolute blast to fish with and made my first day back on the water in a week an easy trip.

We decided to stay north on the flowage for the majority of the day. We never put dead sticks in and really stuck with a walleye program with rods in hand and working for every bite! We started out on a couple channel edge areas with very few fish hanging out due to the wind direction. After a little more looking around we found fish in some very heavy wood in relatively shallow water compared to the main channel.

Casting plastics and live bait both produced. The walleyes really wanted an erratic, fast presentation early. We caught a total of 7 legals and lost two more legals and a slot at the side of the boat. We only caught a handful of white bass but, like I said, we were only targeting walleyes. We did get a few surprise smallies as well.

As we drove around I saw a bunch of fish really deep in the channel in a bunch of areas. We stopped at a couple of those areas and took a closer look. The vast majority of those fish were sheepshead with a few white bass and even fewer walleyes.

Water temps were 56-59 today. Still a lot of green floating around on the lake.

I'm booked up until ice season unless we keep this warm weather around. If you want in on an ice trip don't wait! I'm only booking a few trips a week at most for ice season. Yes, I'll still be providing drive-out and drop-off services.

Had a great morning with Bill and his grandson, Ashton. We only fished a half day due to the weather. Bill typically fishes with me a few times a year and always brings his grandson along.

We started out in one spot that I haven't fished in close to a week and never had to leave. By 9:00 a.m. we had landed nine legals and likely around 50 walleyes total. We made a move to go look for some perch but they were stuck in the mud and not interested in anything we gave them. I made another move to go find some bluegills and those we found but only ended up with five before that bike shut off due to the weather. We were sitting on a school of bluegills that was over 100 strong but as anybody who fishes bluegills knows, sometimes those really big ones are the hardest ones to catch especially when the weather is doing what it is today.

Our walleyes were caught on both minnows and large plastics. Most of the fish were sitting up in 3 to 5 ft of water early and as the morning progressed slid down the break and were out in 14 to 17 ft.

I didn't take any pictures with the guys today at the end because it was pouring rain when we came off the water and they had already changed to get out of their rain suits. I took home a limit of walleyes myself to give to my dad who can't fish anymore.
