Old video of Dick Cavett and Mike Tyson. The video is from 1986. Dick Cavett showing a basic principle of Aikido. In Combat Hapkido, we use this same principle.

Now, Mike Tyson is correct, it's rare to be grabbed like this, but this is also for demonstration purposes, and the principle used here can be used in a real self defense situations.

Hi all, I'm holding a Women's Self Defense class at the SHAC Community Center on May 30th, 11am-1pm.

In the class, we learn situational awareness and de-escalation techniques. We move on to simple, repeatable techniques that work in a variety of situations to help protect and empower you if an attack were to happen.

Some pretty crazy stuff here. If you're ever in this situation, remember there are alot of things you don't know. You don't know who has weapons, what weapons they may have, and who is with who.

Best thing to do is to separate yourself from the situation, put barriers (chairs, tables, etc) between you and fracas, and exit the establishment as safely as you can. If you can't exit, find the safest place to minimize your involvement. Of course, call 911.

Become aware of the exits in the places that you frequent.
