The International Isshin-Ryu Karate Federation (IIKF) was founded in 2010 by Sensei Curt Sawyer and Sensei Matt Dorsey, both 8th degree black belts and original students of Master Joseph Jennings and Grandmaster Angi Uezu. With the desire to help unify, grow and educate Isshin Ryu practitioners around the world, Sensei Sawyer and Sensei Dorsey have committed themselves to make the IIKF the foremost karate organization in the world. Through seminars, clinics, rank promotions, tournaments, instructor training and martial arts business consulting, the IIKF will support IsshinRyu karate students and sensei, preserving the traditional teachings, principles and philosophies of this prominent Okinawan karate style. Any Isshin-Ryu karate-ka is invited to join the IIKF – membership in this worldwide organization will bring many benefits to both individuals and charter school members.

Q & A about SSS Rochester Seminars coming up next weekend
1. Can I attend the Saturday classes only? Yes, you can register to attend both Friday and Saturday or just Saturday only
2. Do I have to participate in every class? No, you can watch any class when you want to take a break. And classes will not be overly strenuous – it’s more about learning and having fun.
3. I’m not very experienced in martial arts. Can I still participate? Yes, the instructors will tailor the class to the participants so everyone will learn and enjoy the experience.
4. Should I bring my own training gear and practice weapons? Yes, bring your own but we will have extra equipment for those who don’t have it.
5. What should I wear? Your regular martial arts uniform will be fine or you can wear sweats/shorts/tshirt. Bring sneakers in case some of the classes are run outside.
6. Any other questions? Just ask here and we’ll answer them. If you haven’t registered yet, go to www.superseminarseries.com

Sensei Matt Dorsey recently attended the 2026 Isshin ryu Hall Of Fame event in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Master Joe Jennings, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2012, also attended. It was an amazing event with seminars, banquet and tournament. Sensei Dorsey reconnected with a lot of old friends and made lots on new ones, too.

This event showed how strong Isshin ryu is in the US and in other countries. The skill, spirit and respect of IR students and teachers was outstanding.
