Did I mention March was a busy month for Luverne Taekwondo?!?

Last but certainly not least…

The 51st Pak Family Martial Arts Banquet
Ames, IA
March 28, 2026

Several members of Luverne Taekwondo were among the approximately 210 attendees of this year’s banquet.
Festivities actually kicked off Friday evening with a Black Belt reunion.
Saturday morning brought workouts for each club - Judo, Hapkido and Taekwondo respectively - with Grand Master Pak!
Saturday evening at the banquet was spent with old friends and new - recognizing students and instructors alike from the Judo, Hapkido and Taekwondo programs for their achievements!

Luverne Taekwondo students, Dafne Nettinga and Miss Alexandra Gangestad along with a number of students from other clubs, were recognized as Students of the Year - which is presented to students chosen by their Head Instructors for commitment to the martial arts and upholding the tenets.

Mrs. Gangestad was surprised by being recognized
as the Parent of the Year - which honors the impact of parents on their children’s martial arts journey and their local program as a whole. (She is very humbled and honored to be chosen for the award!!)

The over-arching theme of the evening delivered in the sage messages from Grand Master Pak, Master Hamann and Master Fay was “family & legacy”. Our martial arts families ebb and flow with new students and students that move on to their next chapters. But inevitably, during that space in between, we leave indelible impressions on one another student and instructor alike.

Thank you to all who shared photos!

Special thanks to:
Grand Master Pak
Master Hamann
SIBBA
ISU Martial Arts
And all who made the weekend a success!!

There is so much talk about what it means to be a sports parent.

Early mornings.
Uniform washing.
On-the-go meal plating.
Carpool coordinating.
Sideline snack packing.

But the real stuff happens in the quiet moments we don’t talk about as much.

The moments when you drop your athlete off at their game and they walk in on their own… while you remember the days when they were too nervous to walk in without you.

The moments when you see your athlete out there being a vocal leader… while you remember watching them in their first Saturday-monning clinic -- too nervous to talk to new teammates or the new coach.

The moments when you watch them play with confidence…
while your mind takes you back to the previous season when tears of frustration and lack of self-belief were on display.

And even the moments when you sit in the stands and find yourself stepping back more to let the game be theirs… while remembering those times when you felt like you had to fix everything.

THIS is the real work of sports parenting.

Not just supporting their growth…
but getting to be there to witness it.

Seeing how much they've grown...

And realizing that along the way...
maybe you did, too.
