Competed with Horizon on Battlebots WCVII! Competing with Calypso at Battlebots Face-Offs!

SPOILERS AHEAD! WATCH EPISODE 5 OF PRO LEAGUE! 🦀🦀🦀

Just when you thought BattleBots Pro League couldn’t get any more unpredictable, Calypso joins the battle against Disarray, from the wonderful folks at Wildcat Robotics!!! 🤩🦀

After a very… middling debut at Faceoffs, and a second performance that we can’t even talk about yet, Calypso came into Pro League with a lot to prove, and no guarantee that we would have a chance to prove it.

Despite a limited amount of time to work on the robot, we made sure that we were ready to fight for every filming session, on the off chance that someone would need to drop out. We put brand new, custom weapon speed controllers from Chiralight in the bot, and we were spinning up like a DREAM. 💭 If we had the chance to fight, we were going to be a menace!

Then, suddenly, that IF disappeared. Tombstone had to drop out, and WE had to fill in! (No pressure!)
Knowing that we had massive shoes to fill, we went into this fight ready to prove that we’re more than an alternate! We’re the real deal!! 💪😤

Though Disarray proved itself to be incredibly tough during its fight against Magnitude, we were able to disable its drive early on, get it flipped over, and wreak havoc on its self-righter and right side until they tapped out! A quick and efficient statement win for the crab, catapulting us to the top of the Group B leaderboard! 🦀🦀🦀

Calypso scuttled away from that fight pretty much unscathed, taking home one of Disarray’s broken wheels, and a mangled piece of their name plate from their top armor.

Our next fight is against Magnitude… keep your eyes , because you won’t wanna miss any of the ground-shaking action!!! 💕🦀

SPOILERS AHEAD FOR OUR FIGHT AGAINST ROUNDHOUSE! YOU HONESTLY SHOULD’VE SEEN THIS FIGHT BY NOW, A NEW EPISODE OF FACEOFFS IS OUT TODAY!

Well, it wasn’t pretty, but we got a win.
Roundhouse () was the bot we were honestly most afraid of. Their massive bar and flamethrower is a scary combo. Even if we survived the bar, there was every possibility our 3D Printed battery boxes would be melted by the flamethrower, but we just had to try our best.
On this day, the bot was ready on time, we had time to test, and finally, we felt like Calypso was working the way we wanted…
Fight starts, it’s really good, but then one of our drive sides starts acting up. A sprocket is bent on one four front wheels, a chain falls off, a keyway shears elsewhere. We’re crab walking, but not well. Roundhouse loses a wheel, and then a weapon belt, we’re still moving, the weapon’s still spinning. Time’s up. It’s a blur…
… and then, it’s announced that we’ve won. It’s a euphoric moment, as every last bit of the past 6 weeks of nonstop build finally pays off…
And… we’re gonna do it again? And… MANTA’s gonna be there? Oh boy…
But, as always, all of that and more will be coming up… 💞🦀

SPOILERS AHEAD FOR OUR FIGHT WITH MAD CATTER! DON’T SAY WE DIDN’T WARN YOU!!!

Ok yeah, de-clawed the crab, BUT DID YOU SEE US GETTING UNDER THEM?!?!? CALYPSO‘S ACTUALLY SHOWING WHAT IT CAN DO?!?!? And not only did our weapon take a chunk out of their wedge, but it bent in one of Mad Catter’s uprights! Had that exchange gone slightly different, we’d have a completely different result on our hands! 🤩✨
… B U T, we’re in the reality where Catter knocked off our weapon, and sent it up into the air, coming back down, ricocheting off the floor and into the glass, where it took a fairly significant chunk out of the thick polycarbonate walls of the battlebox. 😅
You wanna know what caused that? Our weapon shaft had inconsistent heat-treating. Yep. That’s it. Where it should’ve been a certain hardness all the way through, the shaft that broke was different hardnesses throughout. And like, yeah, that sucks, but it happens. We opted once again to play dead after the big hit, instead of keeping the fight going. Everything worked in the robot, but we were down one of our most important protective pieces, so decided to play it safe and put on as good of a final fight as we could!!!
And the recap for our final fight will be coming up… !!! 💞🦀
