Being the coach of Waverly Cross Country since 1989 has been one of the greatest joys of my life. The runners, families, and coaches I've had the privilege to know have inspired me, given me hope, and filled my life with countless laughs and unforgettable memories. I am incredibly grateful for this community.
As we prepare for the 2026 season, we're excited to continue creating the experiences that make Waverly Cross Country special. For example, since 2000, our team has taken an annual overnight trip to Manton/Buckley/Marion. It's a tradition unique at Waverly and one that has helped build friendships, confidence, and memories that last a lifetime.
I'm especially grateful to Megan Sanchez (Class of 2004), whose vision created the Waverly Shoe Project. Thanks to the generosity of our alumni, supporters, and Playmakers, no runner has to train in worn-out or inappropriate shoes because of cost. As the price of quality running shoes continues to rise, this fund helps ensure every athlete has the footwear they need to train safely and confidently. Each runner contributes the first $20, and the Shoe Project covers the rest.
If you'd like to support our runners, contributing is easy using the link below. Donations are accepted only during the month of July, and every gift—large or small—makes a real difference. If you're able, please consider making a contribution and sharing this post with fellow Waverly Cross Country supporters.
