It was a day full of community outreach and collaboration! 🤝🐴

This morning, Ashley teamed up with Tim from Great Rivers United Way to kick things off at Dairyland Power as part of GRUW’s annual campaign trail for the 2026–27 fundraising campaign. Ashley had the opportunity to share more about our grant partnership with GRUW and the impact that partnership has had on HorseSense and our community. Thank you, GRUW, for thinking of us and inviting Ashley to be part of the campaign!

Meanwhile, Sam was at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Sample the City fair. We love connecting with our local college campuses and sharing information about HorseSense and the many volunteer opportunities available to students. We’ve been fortunate to participate in several UWL events, from organization fairs like today’s to visiting classrooms and sharing more about what we do.

HorseSense is always happy to connect with other local fairs, events, classes, and organizations to share more about our programs, volunteer opportunities, and the work we do in our community. Reach out through our website or send us a DM to learn more!

Here’s to community collaboration, new connections, and continuing to share what HorseSense is all about! ❤️🐴

Next up for our Deep Roots Community Farm meet-n-greet: Tennyson!

Tennyson is a 3 year old Angora goat that is raised for fiber and companionship. Isn’t he handsome!? If you wander past the goat area you’ll probably hear Tennyson calling out to say “hello”. He will also never turn down a good head scratch.

As you can see Tennyson has a curly coat which is very different from the rest of the goats you’ll see at the barn and this makes him easily recognizable. Would you believe he doesn’t even need a 10 step curly hair routine to keep those locks looking fresh, it’s all natural😆. Tennyson’s curly locks can also be woven into yarn for knitting, how cool is that!? Fun fact: he’s had a hat made out of his wool and it is extremely warm- perfect for those cold Wisconsin days.

And yes, he does always look like he’s smiling- it’s the absolute cutest 😆🐐

It’s a bit gloomy today so we’ll throw it back to yesterday when it was sunny☀️

We would like to put in a request to Mother Nature to start sending crisp fall weather vibes our way though 🍂

This morning Ashley and Sam attended the Great Rivers United Way 2026/2027 Campaign Kickoff Breakfast!

As a grant partner, we’re always proud to support GRUW and the incredible work they do in our community whenever we can. Their campaign efforts have made a meaningful impact—not only for HorseSense, but for so many local organizations.

Funds raised through this campaign help support grants like the Mental Wellbeing Grant, which HorseSense has been fortunate to receive and use to strengthen our programming.

We were also proud to support this year’s campaign video! You can watch it at the link below—and you may even see some familiar faces 👀

A special thank you to our participant, Krystail, and their mom, Tiffany, for being willing to share their stories and help showcase the impact of these community partnerships. And thank you to GRUW for inviting HorseSense to be part of this year’s video! 🐴❤️

Here’s to the power of community partnerships!🤝

Our team thought it would be fun to begin an introduction series for some of the new animal friends we have at Deep Roots Community Farm.

First up: Meet Buddy!

Buddy made his first appearance at Deep Roots last fall as a very skittish, semi-feral stray. Since then he’s slowly become a very sweet boy who loves his treats and even some pets! Buddy has now been vaccinated and is very well cared for. He’s not up to Basement level of friendly and is still getting used to more than 2 people at a time, but he’s a very nice guy that is doing his best. Buddy may be a bit intimidated when lessons first start, but you might just catch him watching us from a distance.👀

Tip: if you do see Buddy, it’s best to kneel and let him to come you- just like we used to do with our very own Cellar! He may not always be ready to say hello and that’s perfectly okay. Feel free to talk to him and he will get more comfortable with being around people.

Come back next Friday for another animal friend introduction😆

We’ve had some questions regarding our favorite barn cat trio so here’s a little update!

While Basement, Attic, and Cellar are not following us to Deep Roots, we want to ensure everyone that they are living a VERY spoiled retirement life with one of our staff members. They get daily visits from our team and have had more treats the last several weeks than they probably should😅

These boys grew up on Ober Rd and we knew the new barn would be extremely stressful for them. There are already established barn cats (and we know from experience that the boys aren’t a fan of other cats) and much more activity than they are accustomed to. Their new home is quiet and right next to a lovely creek and surrounded by woods. They have adjusted well to their new routine and we believe they are enjoying the slower paced life.

Basement, Attic, and Cellar will always be a part of the herd and we’ll make sure to give periodic updates❤️🐾
