Derek Iverson Spring Fling — That’s a Wrap! ❄️⛷️

What a weekend to close out our final home race of the season.

For the first time in years, Spring Fling actually felt like winter. Snow-covered courses, firm conditions, and fast racing from top to bottom. No mud. No puddles. Just great surfaces and athletes ready to compete.

And compete they did.

Across all age groups, we saw strong skiing, smart tactics, and athletes stepping up when it counted. From podium finishes to personal breakthroughs, the growth this season has been incredible.

Spring Fling is always a special event for CAR. It brings our entire community together — athletes, coaches, families, alumni, and volunteers — all supporting one another and honoring what this race represents.

Huge thank you to our coaching staff for their time, preparation, and commitment to developing every athlete. Thank you to our race crew and volunteers for making the weekend run smoothly. And thank you to our parents for the energy, the food, and the constant support on the sidelines.

We’re proud of every CAR racer who stepped into the start gate this weekend and throughout the season.

Most people wouldn’t last one run in –7°F windchill in a skin tight suit.
Our kids raced FOUR. 🏔🔥

Two Giant Slalom.
Two Slalom.
Best GS + Best SL combined for overall results.

That means four trips through the start gate.
Four chances to send it.
Four times clicking into skis when your toes are numb and your legs are burning.

Alpine ski racing isn’t casual.
It’s 30+ mph on Midwest terrain.
It’s edges millimeters wide.
It’s hundredths of a second separating podium from pack.

It’s early mornings.
It’s frozen ruts.
It’s mental resets after mistakes.
It’s discipline most adults don’t have.

And today we watched:

🔥 First-ever podium finishes
🔥 Personal best runs
🔥 Athletes who fell earlier this season now skiing clean, confident lines
🔥 A 7-year-old cheering for a high school freshman because “they make each other love skiing more.”

That’s Coulee Alpine Racing.

Nearly all of our coaches are parents — showing up before work, after work, and in subzero temps. A few even clicked into their own skis and raced — 40+ years old and still attacking gates.

This is more than a race team.

From U8 to high school, these athletes grow up on the same hill. They build grit. They build confidence. They build an extended family. They build something bigger than medals.

Four races.
Hundreds of turns.
A community that shows up in below zero weather regularly without hesitation.

To every athlete who stepped into that start gate today:
You are tougher than most people will ever understand.

Hosking 2026

As we see the culmination of the 2026 Winter Olympic Games, we see the culmination of our own seasons here in the midwest.

The Hosking is a race where dreams can be made, or crushed.

The Central division sends 44 U14 boys and 46 U14 Girls to Colorado to compete in the Rocky Central Championships in Vail Colorado.

The series consists of 3 days of racing to gain world cup style points in order to solidify your berth west. Each finish secures you points to tally up against the remaining field.

Tucker and Parker have emerged victorious from a long weekend of snow, cold, and many laughs among fellow central athletes.

Tucker finished 23rd overall and Parker 7th!

Congratulations to two outstanding young men as they chase their passion and head to Vail to compete alongside the R/C’s best U14 athletes!

What a few days at the High School State Ski Meet! Our local team brought home some hardware with a first place team win for the Northern Co-op and a Third place finish for our Onalaska/ Aquinas/ West Salem Co-op! Some great runs and some tough runs, but these athletes represented their schools well. Thanks to all the parents that help make this happen. We are so blessed to get to work with these athletes, our group of coaches, and to get to ski at our local hill for this great event!

This Valentine’s Day weekend, while the world celebrates the Olympic spirit of grit and dedication, our Coulee Alpine Racing athletes are stepping into their own big moment at the WIARA State Meet at Mt. La Crosse — and we could not be more proud.

It feels like everything is coming together.

These athletes have put in years of early mornings, cold hands, dryland workouts, strength training, video review sessions, and countless runs chasing hundredths of a second. They’ve trained through snowstorms, setbacks, personal records, and breakthroughs. They’ve shown grit. Discipline. Heart.

And this weekend?
They get to show it all.

There is something special about racing on your home hill.
The energy.
The nerves.
The pride.
The community behind you.

The Olympics remind us what’s possible when dedication meets opportunity. This weekend, our athletes get to live their own version of that dream — competing at the highest level in our state, backed by the people who’ve watched them grow.

If you’re looking for a way to spend Valentine’s weekend, come out and show some love for these incredible young athletes. Bundle up. Bring your cowbells. Fill the finish area with noise they’ll never forget.

Congrats to our athletes, Parker Knadle and Tucker Adams, who participated this past weekend at SnowRiver Speed Camp. These boys achieved a 1st and 2nd place podium finish in Super-G at the end of camp! Way to go guys at taking what you learned and applying it to your racing...it clearly showed!
