Some highlights from Reni’s matches this weekend!

Reni challenged herself by going up in both weight and age, facing some very game opponents and going 3-2 to take silver and bronze. It was awesome to see her navigate deep submission attempts, re-attacks and put new skills she’s been developing in the gym to work.

She fought so hard and we’re incredibly proud of her!

Good work by the team last weekend NEWBREED Jiu Jitsu Federation CT. Dan Daniel Lema took double gold with 3 submission wins via armbar and straight ankle lock. Dan is a recent Kingston High School grad and has been attending Dutchess Community College while working at his dad’s shop Kingston Tires for the last year. He is transferring to the University of Miami next week! We are proud of his scholastic and athletic achievements. We’ll miss him (not his ankle lock) on the mats!

Reni had a great showing at her second tournament with the team. She challenged herself by going up in both weight and age, facing some very game opponents, going 3-2 and taking silver and bronze. Reni’s technique is beginning to catch up to her ferocity on the mats and in life. It was awesome to see her navigate deep submission attempts, re-attacks, and new skills she’s been developing in the gym.

Ever eager for matches, Ann once again went up in both weight and belt level. She had some awesome scramble exchanges and submission attempts against a tough and significantly larger opponent. Ann continues to make minor and major adjustments to her competition game and mindset. We look forward to seeing her continue to test herself in competition.

Huge congratulations to brothers Matthew and Adrian on earning their newest stripes!

These two have been part of Midtown Jiu Jitsu for almost two years, with Adrian training in Kids 1 and Matthew in Kids 2, while both also putting in extra work on the wrestling mats with Coach Trevor.

Matthew has also had some great success in competition, representing Midtown brilliantly and showing the same hard work and determination he brings to training.

Both boys are excellent participants in class, always engaged, ready to learn and respectful of their coaches and teammates. They’re a great example of how far hard work, consistency and good manners can take you.
