Hanover Yoga & Wellness

Hanover Yoga & Wellness Offering Yoga & Meditation sessions for folks with disabilities and their caregivers. Sarah has been offering private Yoga sessions and events ever since.

We are a small Yoga community in Hanover County, VA founded in 2015 by Sarah Brannan Bunger Horne. Over the past decade Hanover Yoga & Wellness has helped humans of all shapes and backgrounds connect with the benefits of practicing Yoga. This small business used to be a brick and mortar boutique fitness studio prior to 2020 but during and after the pandemic, the studioโ€™s physical space closed. Ove

r the years, Sarah has been eager to reunite this Community and offer Yoga services to the public again. And this time, Hanover Yoga will offer Yoga and Mediation sessions specifically designed and catered for the special needs community - individuals with physical, mental, and intellectual disabilities. We will also continue to serve bodies of all ages, shapes, and abilities - but most importantly, we specifically serve folks with disabilities and their caretakers. The Founder of Hanover Yoga & Wellness, Sarah has a son with several intellectual disabilities and Autism, and they needed a community and space to practice Yoga where her son and her family felt accepted and loved. So here we are! Our Mission: Breathe. Educate. Advocate. Inspire. We respond to life through our nervous systemโ€™s natural fight or flight reaction. Our mission is to help folks breathe, become aware of their nervous system, educate to bring awareness, advocate for change, and inspire to heal collectively. We strive to inspire and help humans of all shapes and sizes find holistic ways to relieve tension, pain, and trauma in the physical body, as well as release emotional stress within the mind, so we may feel more comfortable and confident in our body and lives. We specifically provide a space for folks with special needs and disabilities to show up, be exposed to Yoga and Meditation practices, and feel welcomed. Weirdness is welcomed!

๐Ÿ˜CARE CARD ~ Supporting Families of Kids with Disabilities

Are you uncomfortable ๐Ÿ˜ฃ saying what you REALLY think? Let us do it for you! Just forward this to friends and family or share it with a comment on social media.

We will be posting unique Care Cards ALL WEEK!

Please Do ๐Ÿ™Œ

BE SPECIFIC WITH HELP: EXAMPLE: "I'm at the store, what can I drop off?" or "l have 2 hours on Tuesday to help with laundry."

KEEP INVITING ME: Please keep asking me to join, even if I usually say no. It reminds me I'm still part of the community.

TEACH INCLUSION: Talk openly about disability. It's OK if children ask questions. It's better to say hi than whisper and look away.

OFFER "LOW-ENERGY" HANGOUTS: I might not be able to go out, but I'd love for you to drop by with coffee and chat for a while.

CHECK IN OFTEN: Keep calling or texting regularly, even if I don't respond. It helps me feel less alone.

Please Don't โœ‹

SAY "LET ME KNOW WHAT I CAN DO:โ€ It puts the pressure on me to think of a task and ask for help. Just offer a specific action.

OFFER UNSOLICITED ADVICE: Be careful about suggesting new therapies, treatments, or
"cures." This can come off as offensive or even ableist.

STARE OR JUDGE: If my child is having a hard time, please don't stare. A kind look or an offer to help is much better.

I Can ...

โœ…Do a specific errand
โœ…Provide a meal
โœ…Provide childcare
โœ…Hang for a short time
