Preservation

Some time ago, I blogged about how I planned on donating my Albany Patroons game-worn jersey collection to the Albany Institute of History and Art, which they appreciated - but they said that they would really only need one jersey, not the entire set. This happened last week during my trivia hosting stint. As I set up my equipment for the weekly trivia contest, a young couple arrived. My Submissions for BUILT 2026 are …

BUILT is Historic Albany Foundation's charitable auction and fundraiser. The art show, which features everything from sculpture to paintings, from photography to mixed media, encompasses the breadth and depth of Capital District artists who put their own personal spin on historic Capital District architecture and history. I've entered BUILT for the past fifteen years or so, and I'm pleased that the proceeds from the pieces that were claimed at auction have helped preserve Capital District historic structures and constructs....

Eli Heidenrich is the feel-good story of the 2026 Pittsburgh Steelers

Like all the other NFL teams, the Steelers trimmed their preseason roster from 90 men to 53. They kept four quarterbacks on the roster (which means I don't have to change my fantasy football teams' name from "He Drew Allar Deez Nuts on You"), and several of their 2026 draft picks have made the opening day roster. That's right, I get to watch Max Iheanachor, a kid who didn't even play football until after his family emigrated from Nigeria, dominate the Steelers' front line....

The New York State Fair Photography Competition, 2026 results

My routine for the New York State Fair is simple. Drive up on the first Saturday or Sunday that the Fair opens, find a good parking spot, enter the Fairgrounds as early as possible, get a selfie at the I ❤ N Y sign, walk around, take some pictures here and there, check out the exhibits (including the butter sculpture), ride the elevated gondolas, and then at 1:00 p.m....

I have been chasing the "Buena Vista Panorama" image for AGES now. Some background. My Grandma Betty told me this story about how, when she and my Aunt Elaine visited Europe, they attended a guided tour of Rome. The tour guide spoke no English, while neither Grandma Betty nor Aunt Elaine spoke any Italian.
