The most prestigious of our Live Activated awards is The Jeannie McCabe Award.
The eight core values that Activate holds in high regard were inspired by and serve as a reminder of this amazing woman. She might have been running a minute or two late, but she would do anything and everything for anyone that she knew for longer than thirty seconds. Her time at Activate started as simply keeping the balance in her life and making sure that physical activity was checked off the list. Spiritual, mental, and physical activity is what she preached to us when we spoke in between sets or after class. She wore a smile like it was her job, and loved sharing that smile with all of her friends.
Jeannie was a strong woman that had already been through so much before she made it to Activate. She grew in her skill and fitness, enjoyed her new friends and was eager to meet new athletes and bring them into the Activate family. She showed up ready to work on whatever was programmed! New movements, complex movements, running….it didn’t matter! She was there to get better and have a good time and share in other people happiness.
She was already a role model and mentor to many of us, but we had yet to see how strong and graceful this woman was. Jeannie was diagnosed with cancer and so began her journey showing all us what true beauty and strength really was.
There are many details and events that only those closest to her would know, but from the outside it was a series of mountains to climb over and over. Jeannie beat cancer only to have it come back, which lead to more surgeries and more treatment. There were days that you could see the weight of the situation with her, but it didn’t matter. Jeannie is Jeannie no matter the day of the week or the circumstance she was given. Even after losing one of her lungs and then a portion of her tongue, I think her smile was even bigger when she walked in to see us.
Jeannie taught us how to be amazing. She taught us how to love, how to trust God with his plans for you, and how to be a shining light to everyone around us. This award is the smallest of small compared to what Jeannie means to this family. Now, she stands as a forever example of what we should be and how we should ask. The Live Activate Awards is for Jeannie and the pursuit of these values will our lifelong commitment.
