The round kick, often called the roundhouse kick, is one of the most widely used strikes in martial arts and combat sports. It is a circular kick where the leg swings around the body to strike the opponent with the shin or the top of the foot. The power comes from rotating the hips and pivoting on the supporting foot, allowing the entire body to drive through the target. Round kicks are used to attack the legs, body, or head, and they appear in systems such as Muay Thai, karate, taekwondo, and kickboxing. In Muay Thai the kick usually lands with the shin and emphasizes full hip rotation and follow through, while some traditional styles strike with the foot and rely more on a chambered motion. A well executed round kick builds timing, balance, and rotational power, making it one of the core tools for striking, damage, and combination fighting.

How to catch trained fighters off guard

The trick to catching trained fighters off guard is you have to lull them into a sense of security first. Your goal should be to act consistently, in such a way where they are expecting a strike. For example, if I throw the same combo of jab cross hook over and over, they will get used to that combo, then I can switch it up on them, Throw the 1 2 3, mess with the hook, and come back with the side hammer fist.

Max Academy made history this Saturday by doing its first Point Muay Thai competition (PMT). Definitely a bit of a travel from our roots, but it was so good to get the team training hard. For a first time, they did great! Not 100% wins, and not everybody had an opponent to fight, but I am proud of each of them for showing up, and giving their all in training!!!
