Dan commissioned Sparrow (my oldest) to draw a meaningful moment on The Camino as a gift for me. The donkey was a very special magical moment. I loved that Donkey. He surprised me in all the best ways. Yes I kissed a donkey on the Camino and would invite you all to do the same. He was so soft and sweet and cuddly and cute and wanted all the attention that we wanted to give. I could have spent all day with him. I feel in love fast and hard. And was sad when we had to keep on walking. Now I have this special moment memorialized by my amazing and talented artist, Sparrow :)) ❤️❤️❤️😭🥰🫏 THANK YOU DAN AND SPARROW xoxo

Quick update episode before I head out to walk the Camino! A few episodes ago, I told you about coming off my medication and sleep aids, the brain zaps, and the nights I barely slept.

Here's where things landed: I'm fully off everything, sleeping better than I have in months, and I'm sharing exactly what worked.

I'm also telling you about the day I broke my own rule, paid for it until 12:30am, and what I did the next morning — because that part is the whole lesson. If you've ever blown a boundary with alcohol and used it as a reason to give up on the whole thing, this one's for you.

In this episode, you'll learn:

* The full update on coming off sleep aids and medication, including the last little crutch I didn't even realize I was using

* The two simple changes that made the biggest difference in my sleep

* What happened the day I broke my own caffeine boundary (and why it felt exactly like drinking)

* How to get back to a boundary after you break it, without the shame spiral or the "I'll start Monday" trap

* Why your body knows how to get back to baseline when you stop interfering

Quick reminder: this is my personal experience with medication. Always talk to your doctor before starting or stopping anything.

Also, I recommend you listen to 'How to Stop Talking Yourself Out of It When It Gets Uncomfortable' before you listen to this one, to get the full context!

We did it!!! The final 2 days!! Days 11 and 12. We walked 173.1 miles/278.6 kilometers over 12 days!! Unbelievable and a bit overwhelming if I think about it too much!! What an experience… so much more to share but for now, pics!!

Day 7-8, another 27 miles total. I want to highlight all the scenes because it’s not just picturesque villages and beautiful countrysides and beaches. A chunk of each day is leaving and entering the cities which is less than glamorous. And HOT and sunny and loud and not relaxing after walking all day. My backpack was the wrong one.. small and minimal but lacks the right support. It’s going to teach me something I just don’t know what yet 😂
I’m thankful for the store where I got extra large shoulder pads to put under the shoulder straps lol. Everyday I manage that.. adjusting them, they fall out, I shove them back in… it’s a whole thing on its own. 4 more days and I’m starting to get worried about ending.. so I manage my mind to stay present and not miss a thing. I couldn’t ask for a better more upbeat and fun and helpful Camino buddy, Dan :)) he went and got me coffee this am and I got to drink it in bed. Tonight we are staying in an Airbnb - THAT HAS AC!!!! You don’t know how luxurious that is. We haven’t had it this whole time. It also has a full kitchen, 2 bedrooms and a nice living room!!! We are very thankful.

Want to know what we look forward to at the end of the day instead of a cold beer or the local wine?
……
Protein pudding. It’s called Pudim. And it’s delicious and we get them everyday and we eat it and it’s glorious. We compare them all.. talk about them and really savor them. You don’t need alcohol to celebrate the hard work you did on the Camino. I can’t imagine drinking doing this. It would make me feel real bad. Instead we nourish, eat our treats, hydrate, sleep, and relish in the whole experience. No missing out here!

Ok— days 5 and 6 in Spain now! I’ve definitely settled into what this experience is (for me, so far 😉).
My body has adjusted but most importantly my mind has learned to simplify and settle in. We have really noticed the simple pleasures along the way.. a cool shady breeze, a can of something cold and refreshing, a tortilla, fellow pilgrims that we started the journey with in Porto, body pillows, fans in the room, yummy fresh bread and butter every morning and honestly at every meal, the forest walks, the smell of eucalyptus, the century old churches that remind you that you are not alone or the only one who has ever walked the path, omg a laundry machine and DRYER!, soft paths to walk on, the coolest Donkey that exists on earth that popped up on our path, and the universe is delivering exactly what we need when we need it. It’s really hard to explain. It’s not about touring around or the accommodations or the food… it’s way more than that. We are half way there and now I’m getting sad that it’s going to end where as in day 3 ish.. I was kind of worried about how I would feel over 12 days…
Enjoy the pics! We’ve walked about 85 miles in 6 days 🤯

Day 3-4 Days 3 and 4 ( yesterday and the day before)each 14 miles. I accepted the pain of what this is going to be like today. It’s not comfortable to walk over cobblestone and sand and flat road and up and down hills. For about 8 hours a day. And yesterday I really just let myself accept how much my feet and legs hurt. I have bruises on my shoulders from my backpack and still it’s amazing. Still I can be present with all the good and the bad and keep moving forward. We’ve met some amazing people on the trail and are so grateful that our bodies wake up feeling good to take on another day! And a little bonus last night our village had a medieval festival!! So fun !

If you've ever thought "I've wasted so many years drinking," this episode is going to change how you see your entire story.

It started with Madonna- a line about how the deepest darkness holds the greatest light. And it perfectly captures something psychologists have been studying for decades: post-traumatic growth.

The research shows that women who go through hard seasons — including years of over-drinking, and actually process them, come out the other side with deeper relationships, more appreciation for life, and a strength they never had before.

The growth comes from processing the pain, and just time alone won't do it.

In this episode, I break down the five research-backed ways post-traumatic growth shows up and I share the tips for actually getting there.

I promise your drinking years aren't wasted years. They're the material for the best years of your life!

I’m pretty sure that it’s a fact that you don’t need alcohol to have a good time. I used to think I needed alcohol to have a good time - LIKE IT WAS A FACT. I’m walking the Camino, Portuguese Coastal Way. 12 days of about 15 miles a day. Some people think you CANT DO IT without having beers and wine at the end of the day. I think you CAN. And that it’s better. Who’s right? Lol. 😂 (me, duh). So much more to share than this.. so stay tuned!!!

Ok friends, tomorrow I start walking The Camino de Santiago. Its network of historic pilgrimage routes across Europe leading to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in northwest Spain. It has been walked for over 1,000 years and is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. ➡️ My friend Dan and I will be taking the Portuguese route and will walk about 150 miles over 12 days, hoping to average about 15 miles a day. We are carrying our own things and will figure out where we are sleeping on the way!

My pack weighs about 10 lbs 🙂 those of you who know me know how much pride I get from packing less and going minimal for long periods of time 🙂. I am only bringing one charger, my phone and my kindle for electronics. I’m not even carrying a battery pack.

Of course, I’ll be sharing and reflecting on my journey, not sure how often or where I’ll be doing that yet, but you can bet I will be!

Also, little teeny representation of Chapel Hill gym gals coming with me thanks to Kate Scott for the rainbow Grey Squirrel pin and to Aimee Watts for the squirrel sticker for my kindle 🙂. Miss you gals!

Wish me lots of luck and good vibes!
