It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Upper Hutt Rugby Club Life Member, Kerry Southee.
Kerry was a dedicated player, coach, committee member and lifelong supporter of the Upper Hutt Rugby Club and the Upper Hutt Rams.
His contribution to our club spanned many decades, and his commitment, loyalty and service have left a lasting legacy.
Kerry played through many grades at Upper Hutt and was a member of the successful Senior Seconds team that won their grade in 1968. He went on to join the Senior Firsts, becoming Vice Captain in 1969 before taking on the captaincy from 1970 to 1972.
Following his playing career, Kerry continued to give back to the club through coaching. He coached the Second Grade First Division team in 1973, President's Grade in 1975 and Senior Thirds in 1977.
Kerry's contribution extended well beyond the rugby field. A hardworking and dedicated club man, he generously gave his time and carpentry skills to help with improvements and maintenance around the club. He served on the Management Committee from 1978 to 1980.
In recognition of his outstanding service and commitment to Upper Hutt Rugby, Kerry was awarded Life Membership in 1980, an honour that reflected the enormous contribution he had made to the club.
Even after his playing, coaching and committee days, Kerry remained a passionate and loyal supporter of Upper Hutt Rugby and the Rams. His connection to the club never faded, and he continued to be part of the fabric of our rugby community.
On behalf of everyone at the Upper Hutt Rams Rugby Football Club, we extend our deepest condolences to Kerry's family, friends, former teammates and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
