"Upper Hutt Rugby League Club" Tigers Celebrating 65 years in 2026 The Upper Hutt Rugby League has established its presence in the Upper Hutt Community over the past 60 years.

During this time there have been many accomplishments. The Club has helped put Upper Hutt on the National sporting map, producing an enviable list of Kiwi Stars such as Kevin Tamati, Nelson Asofa-Solomona, Syd Eru, Stephen Kearney, Morvin Edwards, Peter Edwards, Mike Kuiti, Mark Woods, Adrian Shelford, Esene Faimalo, Dave Ewe and Bill Harrison. An indication of the strong Management and Admin proc

cesses is highlighted by the fact that Upper Hutt was the first Wellington League Club to totally own its own premises. It took just two years, from the seed of an idea through to completion of the building. The Practical "Get on with it" attitude remains the trademark of the clubs Management Committee. ​The Upper Hutt Rugby League Club deeply mourns the passing of our esteemed Lifetime Member and former Chairman, Bill Werry, who passed away peacefully on June 4th, 2026, aged 88.

​Bill was the backbone of the Tigers for decades. His leadership, unwavering dedication, and kindness of spirit shaped our community, and his immense service will always be remembered. Our deepest condolences go out to his partner Jacqui, his children Michael, Liz, and Jon, his grandchildren, and all his whānau.

Our 2026 Women’s Team Naming 🐅🖤🧡

​Whānau, we have some special news to share.

​This year, our Upper Hutt Tigers women’s team is officially stepping onto the field as the Dawn Cotton Upper Hutt Rugby League Women's Team.

​For our wāhine, this season is all about honoring the people who built this club and paved the way for us. We believe in remembering where we come from, so we are starting a new tradition: every single year, our women’s team will name themselves after a past player or member who made our club what it is today.

​It is only right that we start this tradition with Dawn Cotton. Dawn was the first ever woman to play for our club, starting all the way back in the under 12s as the only girl in the team, and she went on to play in our very first champion women's rugby league team. She is a true trailblazer for our wāhine.

​We want to send a massive, heartfelt thank you to Dawn and her brother Mark, who have graciously gifted us their blessing to use her name this year. To be entrusted with this name is a huge honor, and the team is going to wear it with massive pride and the ultimate respect.

​We don't just play for the points on the board, we play for our history, our traditions, and pioneers like Dawn who paved the way for us to be here today.

​Let’s get right behind our wāhine this season as they carry this name with pride for Dawn, Mark, their whānau, and the whole Tigers community.
