Women’s Interclub. Ding ding round 3 saw Red Stars In Their Eyes doing a nice lil roadie to Upper Hutt. Squash at Upper Hutt
Slight delay leaving town as the girls were briefly distracted by a tiny tank of a staffy who was keen to come as our support dog. As tempting as it was it was not to be.
Arriving with impeccable timing as no ghastly traffic to compete with, we were treated with the grandstand, therefore the best viewing platform while sitting. Talia and Tanya off fiirst, warming the ball up., then whipping, smashing, lobbing to the end. Tanya managed to sneak in a slick W, however Talia put a stop to that carry on, Stars winning in 4.
Sober Dee, literally our sober D next up against one of our fave familiar faces Celeste. Always looking composed and poised on court, C did not let D rattle her, but was not able to win a game. Red Star’s D does C in 3🤔
Now self proclaimed fave CC finally got herself off the couch to participate in some team sports. Pocket rocket Amy showed some promise with some great smashes where it counted, but then hitting the tin or hitting the roof does not count. Watch out for this rising star, but unfortunately this evening also going down in 3. Another Red Star win.
Numero Uno seed Mel was booted to the quarto game of the evening. Her opponent, was possibly Orfi disguised as an innocent small person called Bonnie. We cannot forget, little people will run so under no circumstances should we take them for granted. I guess someone didn’t get this memo, our numero uno going down in 4. Upper Hutt taking this one out.
Red Star getting the overall team win with no calculators or the use of their 11 fingers required.

Thanks to the Upper Hutt ladies for your hospitality. See you on this side of the hill next time.
Also hope to see you at the end of August for our next big tourney.
Red Star Wahine, signing out until next week.

Round 2. Winter Inter Club : Wahine edition

Terrific Tahlia enlisted her trusty Hybrid Waka to Whizz the Team Up and Over to Hutt City Territory. Welcomed by the Hustling Hutt City Crew, we attended to the matters at hand-Court Proceedings.
There was confirmation that games would go to 15, some noted grace in this mutual target. Terrific Tahlia and Lovely Leigh with their worthy opponents entered court 1 and 2, from this moment on photography took second fiddle.
Cuz oversaw proceedings for Leigh, Jess oversaw proceedings for Tahlia.
Tahlia pushed ahead in the first set, then made quick work of the second. As her opponent dug deep in search of shaking Tahlias resolve, it was not to be. Terrific Tahlia refused to relinquish a single set to Hutt City, Terrific Tahlia leaves court 1, Victorious.
Court 2 was in korero mode for much of Set 1 with whakawhanaungatanga easing out to a false sense of impending bragging rights for Hutt City - C Grader Motoring Michelle. Our Lovely Leigh then very Lovingly took Set 2. 1 each and the pressure was on for Hutt City. Leigh flipped the switch with a commanding performance to take out of Set 3. Hutt city all but deflated, Lovely Leigh now on enemy lines and with that said, Set 4 sealed the Redstar Win.
Jess and Cuz took to the courts next. Hutt City Hungry for a win. Redstar ready to Rumble. These two ladies set their Starry Eyes between teetering close to the "15" scoring finishing line to disregarding it altogether. Jess and Cuz took Hutt City to the courts thus banking the accumulation of points that our Court proceedings hustled up, even though their hustles both ended in 2 loses for the Team. However loses can turn into wins ,when you push the goal posts and that is how our night ended. An overall Team win...1 point got us there. Red Stars in Their Eyes.

Mens 2 made the trip over to Mana last night.
First up was Nuts taking on a blast from the past and a memorable Mana member, Andy, who was just as handy as always. The longer he played, the more confident he got, making for an entertaining spectale.
Tim was his usual double jointed self, slotting funny boasts and rolling drops out of no where. He is still moving around the court like a 50 year old.
Mark played a younger opponent, who was laser focused and disciplined. He couldn't be tempted into having a pre-game Canadian Club. This is perhaps why he closed it out in 3. Koro Mark showed that he has a new lease on life and was equal to his young mate.
Ben was on and off quick as. I asked him what his strategy was going into the game and he said "I haven't thought about that... Just go hard from the start I guess." It seemed to work for him as he did a bit of everything and looked like he had been playing squash for 10 years.
Great hosting from Mana Squash Club who had all 3 courts in use.
