Thank you to Jonathan Ravens and Anthony Davies from Friends of Belmont Regional Park who came to speak to club members tonight.

They updated us about the proposal for a land swap so the quarry near Dry Creek can expand into the park. This project has been listed under the Fast-track Approvals Act.

If this goes ahead, we’d lose precious regenerating forest, including rare and beautiful swamp maire and ramarama trees.

We’re so fortunate to have Belmont Regional Park in our backyard to walk, run and cycle in. It’s also wonderful to see the forest and birdlife returning.

Orange Hut in Akatarawa Forest today.
We went up from Whareroa Farm at Paekākāriki, had lunch at the hut and returned, taking a different track down through the farm.
Low cloud and drizzle stayed with us for a chunk of the morning but it brightened in the afternoon.
The streams were up after overnight rain.
