Our Taiao crew had an awesome trip upto the Tawera land block which has 1 of the last lowland kahikatea stands, it was an amazing day with awesome korero and aspirations shared! We were very lucky to have Arapata Reuben from Ngāi Tāhu whakapapa and the National kiwi hatchery, another Whanauka Dan Buchanan who works at MPI specializing in native forests and Clayton from Orion who also works with groups and hapū to plant and grow native forests! The tawera block is a space our Taiao crew are very passionate about we identified native rakau and pest rakau and looked for signs of any pest animals living or moving through helping reduce/eliminate pests plant/animal and allow this special stand of taonga rakau to regenerate and thrive! We had a new at220 pest trap donated by Clayton/Orion and all got a rundown on operation, we will in the future use this to control possums as part of our project plan at tawera after we get familiar with it at a property in Tuahiwi with possums problems . Also we had venison pick up from hunters to hope which we are also grateful for! Each month we collect mince that feeds our tauira and their whānau weekly!

Our tauira have been putting in the mahi this week working hard on Project 2: whare heihei 🐔🏠 and potting mix tables 🌱🪚, smashing out theory assessments 📚✅ CV workshop with Whaea Sachi and getting some fitness in too 🏃🏽‍♂️💥

On Friday, in collaboration with Noaia, Road II Redemption, and Kai Connoisseurs, we held a working bee at Te Waka-a-Rangi cutting firewood and preparing spaces for calves and chickens ahead of spring. 🌱🔥🐄🐓

This was a beautiful collaboration of kaupapa, creating meaningful opportunities for tauira to gain valuable hands-on work experience while contributing back to the whenua and community.

A huge mihi to our Community Job Coaching rangatahi who stepped into Tuakana roles, mentoring and supporting Noaia tauira throughout the day. Your leadership, patience, and mana made a real impact. 💛

We’re also deeply grateful to the amazing team at Kai Connoisseurs for nourishing our tinana with beautiful kai, while also helping coordinate the day alongside Noaia and Road II Redemption.

To our MVPs... thank you for your hard mahi and dedication. It was a privilege to acknowledge your contribution with a small koha voucher in appreciation of the energy and commitment you brought to the kaupapa.

Ruataniwha Staffing pānui – We are pleased to announce that Ashely Rafferty has joined the Noia team in the role of Kaiārahi Ruataniwha, to lead our hands on, whenua based Ruataniwha programme, for Rangatahi who have disengaged from mainstream schooling. Ashely will support the Noia vision of ensuring young people are engaged in practical learning across farming, horticulture, and environmental contexts. Ashley is a mother, an experienced primary school teacher and a Registered Social Worker. She comes from a professional background across both education and kaupapa Māori social services. She holds two degrees, a Bachelor of Teaching and Learning (Primary) and a Master of Social Work. Ashley’s practice is grounded in whanaungatanga and supporting positive outcomes for rangatahi and their whānau. Ashely is passionate about fostering a supportive environment where all learners feel safe, understood, and able to thrive. Nau mai, haere mai Ashely!!

It was awesome to see the range of opportunities available on such a great campus, backed by a strong team of kaimahi 💪🏽
