Saturday night we had 25/26 Ruapuna Speedway awards.

We ended up taking home the Lightning sprint rookie of the year trophy and also the Canterbury Champs trophy.

That’s the 25/26 speedway season all wrapped up, stoked to cap the rookie season off with a feature win at Ellesmere.

Didn’t really know what to expect coming into speedway, wanted to learn as much as I could, be at the front and bring home a straight car every meet, which we ticked all those boxes. Highlight for sure was my second race meeting getting the feature win for the Canterbury champs. Unfortunately had a few nights where the car let us down and a DQ, I guess thats racing.

Massive thank you to all the people that helped out, couldn’t have done it without them. Firstly, mum and dad for putting up with me and all the help and support. Allan Chapman for all the advice and car setup tips, really enjoyed studying and learning the setup side of it all, and his help was key. Also everyone that helped on the Car, Moose, Jackson, Andrew, Paul, and Quinton, much appreciated. Shoutout to Lightning Sprint guys for the great racing all season. Big thanks to Dan and Tony for letting me borrow their trailers.

Ellesmere Recap

Heat 1 - started off grid 1 and led the first half of the race before having to pull in with an oil leak.

Heat 2 - started off grid 6 and shuffled our way into 3rd place, then after a caution took advantage of the restart and moved into 2nd.

Feature - started off grid 4, moved into p3 out of the first corner and hit the bottom not bad and led to the checkers. Made some good changes with the car which made it a lot easier.

Last night at Ruapuna Speedway for the season.

It was Best Pairs night for the Lightning Sprints, and luckily I got paired with Connie Mckay. We managed to pull off the win, which was a great way to end the season at Ruapuna.

Heat 1 – Started 6th behind Connie and shaked and baked our way forward and i ended up 4th. It was a good to feel out the new car and get an idea of where we needed to make adjustments.

Heat 2 – Started 6th again and had a pretty similar run, working our way up to 4th.

Feature – Started 6th again and moved into 4th on the first lap. Then went to battle with Shawn, which was a wicked fun battle. Managed to get the top working not too bad and was side by side with Connie on the white flag, but ran it in a bit too hot into Turn 1 and finished 3rd. That was enough to secure the Best Pairs win, which was pretty sweet, our team manager Roger was happy. Congrats to Cooper on the win.

The track was the best I’ve ever raced on, massive shoutout to the Ruapuna track crew. Also thanks to everyone else at Ruapuna who helps make the show run.

Big thanks to Dad, Jackson, Moose, Harry, and Paul for all their help in the pits. We kept adjusting the new car and made it better and better as the night went on

Final race at Ruapuna for the season

2026 NZ Grass Kart Champs all wrapped up, Happy to come away with 1NZ in the 450cc class.

It was pretty fun to jump back in the kart and racing amongst a talented field and to go down to the wire with some of the best. Going into the Sunday there was only 2 points separating me Ben and Simon, so to pull off 2 wins on the Sunday was pretty sweet.

Massive shoutout to the Ashburton Family Go Kart Club for putting a wicked event on, they did a great job with the conditions we got delt, Huge shoutout to the marshals, scrutineers, organizers, and every volunteer who gave up their time to make it happen

Congrats to Ben and Simon on the podium, had an awesome time battling with everyone out there and even better talking crap with everyone in the pits

The kart was hooked up all weekend thanks to the time and effort Dad puts in. Couldn’t do it without him.

Not a bad weekend in the Lightning Sprint, finished 3rd in the South Island CTRA Title and 4th in the Clay Cup.

Clay Cup at Ruapuna Speedway Saturday night:
Had some okay heat races which qualified us grid 4 for the 20 lap feature. From there that’s where we finished. Gave it 100% but just didn’t quite have the speed. Congrats to Boothy on the win.

CTRA South Island Champs at Ellesmere Sunday:
Slightly better day for us. It was a new track for me and the feature ended up being pretty sweet with a bottom and a top line, and slick through the middle. Both heat races we started mid pack, didn’t make up much ground but felt like we had pretty good speed by the end of the second heat.

For the feature we rolled off grid 5. After an early caution and restart I managed to get up into 3rd. Was pushing hard trying to get 2nd, tried showing the nose but made a few small mistakes and had to settle for 3rd. Congrats to Cooper on the win.

Big thanks to the Cornelius family for putting on the War of the Lamb Leg, that’s back-to-back wins now 👍

Also shoutout to Dan for letting me borrow his trailer, appreciate it.

Tough night for us at Ruapuna Speedway.

We battled motor issues all night and unfortunately had to pull in every time we went out on track.

Massive thanks to Dad for all the work in the shed leading up to the meeting, as well to Quinton McKay for the time and effort helping out.

On the bright side, the car was looking sharp with the new powder coating. Huge shoutout to Premier Powder Coating for the wicked job, and to Southway Transport Ltd for making the logistics side easy as.

Congrats to Jayden Fraser on the win cool to see, especially after him and Quinton helped the night before just to get the motor even running. Also a big thanks to Tony for the use of his trailer again, really appreciate it.

Hopefully we can resolve the issue for the next meeting, and come out swinging.
