🏐 Weekly Round-Up: Cold Mornings & Big Wins!
A massive effort from all our players, coaches, and supporters this weekend braving the freezing winter conditions! Our teams showed true grit, working through the cold to deliver some outstanding competitive netball. Here is how the action unfolded across the courts:

🏐 Senior Team Report (Hanmer A)
It was a very cold morning in Hawarden for the Hanmer A team’s early game against Hawarden B.

The Play: The team got off to a solid start, leaving things locked up pretty evenly at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, the whole team gelled beautifully to build an 8-goal lead at halftime. Hawarden went on a big run in the third, cutting Hanmer's lead to just one heading into the final term. Showing awesome composure, the whole squad worked together across the court to pull ahead for a fantastic 31–26 victory!

The Spirit: Brilliant fight and determination to absorb Hawarden's third-quarter pressure and finish the game strong.

👧 Junior Teams Round-Up

Hanmer U14 vs Cheviot U14

The Score: 23–2 to Cheviot.

The Play: The U14 girls faced a tough match against a strong Cheviot side. Our girls came out firing, attacking hard and putting intense pressure on every single ball. They worked tirelessly to bring the ball through a relentless Cheviot defence to find their shooters.

The Spirit: The team's hard work and dedication this season really showed. They managing to score under high pressure and successfully halved Cheviot's goal total from the first time the two teams met!

Player of the Day: Bella Bradley 🏆 earned the Fire & Ice prize for her impressive shooting and great movement in the circle, making herself an easy target for the midcourt.

Future Ferns 6 (FF6) vs Waiau

The Play: The FF6 team played an incredible game against Waiau, showing a huge improvement from the last time they met. The girls worked exceptionally hard to pull down heaps of intercepts and rebounds, translating their efforts into 3 fantastic goals!

The Spirit: Phenomenal persistence on defence and excellent court coverage.

Player of the Day: Aurora 🏆 secured Player of the Day for amazing defensive work. She boxed out beautifully by turning the moment the opponent took a shot to secure rebounds, and if she missed the first one, she fought twice as hard for the next. Aurora also showed great teamwork by passing cleanly to every teammate.

Future Ferns 5 (FF5) vs Hawarden Blue

The Play: Playing an early game on a very cold morning, the girls were keen to warm up and get straight into the action. Just like previous encounters, the two teams were evenly matched, but Hanmer's experienced players helped the team edge ahead. The girls are passing beautifully to transition the ball through the court.

The Spirit: Outstanding communication! The girls were calling loudly to each other for passes, cheering each other on, and maintaining a highly supportive, positive attitude.

Player of the Day: Myra-Anne 🏆 was named Player of the Day for her rapidly developing skills and her fantastic, positive attitude on court.

**🌧️ WEEKLY NETBALL ROUND‑UP — HANMER TEAMS TRAVELLED TO CULVERDEN! 🌧️**

Rough weather didn’t stop our Hanmer teams from putting out some awesome performances in Culverden this week. Huge effort from all players, coaches, supporters, and families who braved the conditions!

🏐 Hanmer A vs Cheviot C
Final Score: 23–14 to Hanmer!
A strong start saw Hanmer take control early, with smooth ball movement into the circle and accurate shooting from Madi and Melissa.
Our defensive trio Savvy, Rebecca, and Rosie caused chaos for Cheviot, picking off turnovers and keeping the pressure on all game.

⭐ Monteiths Player of the Day: Melissa
For outstanding work in the shooting circle — creating space, setting up plays, and keeping the defence guessing.

👧 U14s vs Hawarden Red U14
Final Score: 22–6 to Hawarden
A brilliant first quarter (2–7) set the tone for one of the team’s strongest games yet.
Midcourt pairing Abby (C) and Laila (WA) moved the ball beautifully, while Katie (WD) supported a hardworking defensive end of Aaliya (GD) and Zara (GK).
Pippa‑Renee and Bridie added impact off the bench, continuing the defensive pressure.

🔥 Fire & Ice Player of the Day: Bridie Robourgh
For tight defence, quick footwork, and forcing errors with great pressure.

🌱 Future Ferns 6 vs Cheviot
A slow first quarter turned into a fantastic lift in the second, with faster passing, better spacing, and growing confidence.
The girls picked up heaps of tips and intercepts, and showed beautiful sportsmanship when a teammate took a fall — supporting her straight away.

🌟 Player of the Day: Christie
Her improvement this season has been incredible — growing confidence, great tips, and awesome effort.

🌼 Future Ferns 5 vs Culverden
A big focus this week was making sure *everyone* was involved — and the team absolutely delivered.
Strong communication and passing created great opportunities, and it was awesome to see training skills coming to life on court.

✨ Highlight of the match: Nabi scored her first goal of the season! The whole team celebrated.

A massive effort from all our players, coaches, and supporters this weekend as our Hanmer teams travelled away to Cheviot for a fantastic day of competitive netball! Here is how the action unfolded across the courts:

🏐 Senior Team Report (Hanmer A)

Hanmer A took on Hawarden B in the Round 1 finals for 3rd and 4th place. It was redemption week, and Hanmer A showed up in full force.
The Play: A steady start allowed the team to work up a strong, commanding lead. The game remained steady but highly competitive, showcasing a performance of total control. The girls put on a powerful, consistent display, which was especially impressive given that every single player stayed on court for the whole game 💪.
The Spirit: The team played with total composure and clinical ex*****on to secure the redemption win.
Player of the Day: Maggie 🏆 stepped up as captain, anchored the midcourt at Centre (C) for the full game, steadied the ship, kept play calm, and consistently hit the circle edge.

👧 Junior Teams Round-Up

Hanmer U14 vs Culverden Red U14

The Score: 26–5 to Culverden.
The Play: Hanmer secured their best start of the season by sinking 3 goals in the first quarter, driven by accurate shooting from Bella and Abby alongside excellent feeding from Eloise and Laila. Aaliya put on a strong defensive display alongside Zara, who delivered another highly consistent game at Goal Keeper (GK). Katie worked tirelessly at Wing Attack (WA) to create attacking options, while Bridie used fast footwork to mark her player tightly after moving into GK.
The Spirit: Team connections and combinations are visibly strengthening across the court. The squad kept their work rate high through every single quarter and adapted brilliantly to tactical changes.
Player of the Day: Laila Cannell 🏆 earned the Fire & Ice prize for her exceptional work on both attack and defence, paired with outstanding communication and a positive attitude.

Future Ferns 6 (FF6) vs Culverden

The Play: Playing their fifth game of the 2026 season against a strong Culverden team, the girls worked tirelessly all game. They created excellent shooting opportunities and showcased high-effort defending down the court.
The Spirit: The team never gave up, fighting hard for every single ball and working together beautifully.
Player of the Day: Izzy 🏆 was named Player of the Day for an outstanding defensive performance, pulling down great intercepts and showing relentless determination when challenging for possession.

Future Ferns 5 (FF5) vs Hawarden Red

The Score: Hanmer girls took the win!
The Play: Facing Hawarden Red for the second time this season, the teams were evenly matched, but Hanmer's skill development broke the game open. The newest team members continue to make excellent progress week on week.
The Spirit: The girls worked together beautifully with big smiles and incredibly positive attitudes while giving their absolute best on court.
Player of the Day: Iris 🏆 was named Player of the Day for outstanding play, grabbing crucial intercepts and delivering precise passes to transition the ball into goals.

🏐HANMER SPRINGS NETBALL CLUB WEEKEND ROUND-UP 🏐

A massive shout-out to everyone who made this weekend's netball round such a huge success! Our Hanmer teams brought incredible energy, inspiring team spirit, and outstanding sportsmanship to the courts.

Here is how our teams fared:H

Hanmer Senior A v Hawarden B

After a slow start finding our groove, the shooting clicked into gear. Brilliant intercepts right down the court helped us close the gap quickly. Unfortunately, an injury cut the game short, but outstanding sportsmanship was shown by everyone involved.

Monteiths Player of the Day: Madi 🏆 (for consistently making space and driving hard in the mid-court, backing her shooting, and supporting the GS beautifully around the circle).

Hanmer U14 v Hawarden

A wet court and new player combinations saw Hawarden take an early lead. The mid-court fought hard against tough defense, completely turning things around in the second half with great link play. The girls did an amazing job keeping their spirits high in the freezing, wet conditions as they continued adjusting to the new hoop height.

The Play: Aaliya had a massive game in GD with endless tips, rebounds, and intercepts. Eloise provided an excellent link transitioning into C, backed by powerful drives from Katie and long-range goal attempts from both Eloise and Bridie.

Fire & Ice Player of the Day: Zara 🏆 (for an exceptional defensive display in GK, reading the attacking plays perfectly to secure multiple tips and intercepts).

Future Ferns 5 (FF5) v Cheviot

Braving slick, wet conditions over in Waiau, our FF5 squad brought immense energy to fuel their fire. They looked after the ball beautifully in the damp weather, dominating possession and heavily disrupting Cheviot's attacking line. The highlight of the match was a spectacular long-distance goal that had the freezing sidelines roaring!

The Spirit: Exceptional communication, teamwork, and defensive hunting for loose balls from the first whistle to the last.

Fudgelato & Hanmer Springs Toy Shop Player of the Day: Harper Watene-Wilson 🏆 (for outstanding work rate, determination, and an awesome all-game effort).

Future Ferns 6 (FF6) v Cheviot BlueT

Taking the court for game four of their 2026 season, the FF6 crew gave their absolute best efforts against a very tough Cheviot Blue side.

The Spirit: Fantastic positive attitudes and superb teamwork on display as the girls constantly looked out for one another across the court.

Fudgelato & Hanmer Springs Toy Shop Player of the Day: Chloe 🏆 (for amazing defending, cleaning up rebounds under the hoop, and showing incredible perseverance to hunt down intercepts on the second attempt).

Our Seniors put on a clinic this weekend, securing a fantastic 31–14 victory over Culverden B.
The Play: Our centre passes were completely on point, and the shooters were absolutely on fire. The team truly excelled in the mid-court, combining skills for an awesome, cohesive team effort.
The Spirit: Dominant from start to finish, showcasing great tactical awareness and high energy.
Monteiths Player of the Day: Bonnie 🏆 (for an incredible individual performance and driving the team's mid-court excellence).

Hanmer U14 v Hawarden Red U14
Our U14 crew faced another tough battle against a highly experienced Hawarden Red side, going down 27–3.
The Play: High work rates in defence successfully kept the opposition's scoring down. Pippa-Renee shone in GK with an intercept and multiple tips, while Zara adapted beautifully to WA with sharp court play and accurate circle feeds.
The Highlights: The girls fought hard to convert three excellent goals, courtesy of fine shooting from Bridie, Aaliya, and Eloise. When energy dropped in the final quarter, the squad dug deep to find a spark and finish on a high note.
The Spirit: The massive resilience and endless enthusiasm this team is building makes them an exciting group to watch for the future!
Fire and Ice Player of the Day: Eloise 🏆 (for exceptional court play across both Centre and GA positions).

Future Ferns 6 (FF6)
Our FF6 crew took to the court for game three of their 2026 season, delivering a performance packed with heart and persistence.
The Play: Faced with another challenging match, the girls refused to give up, leaving everything on the court and fighting hard until the final whistle.

Our FF5 team had a bye this week, so they enjoyed a well-earned weekend off from game play! We look forward to seeing them back out on the court after the holiday break.
