| 60.39km. A PB distance. A Birthday well spent 🥳
No cake. No champagne. Not a drop of alcohol.
Just 9hrs running in circles with some of the best humans I know. Talking about everything from training, life, to how we can fit more into already-full days. Playing the Peg game, eye-spy, sipping electrolytes from soft bottles. Times have changed 😂
Discussing highly important topics like... how not to s**t yourself during an ultra, whether the answer to bad toenails is simply having them removed altogether, and what the pedicure ladies must really think when we walk through the door 🤭
We had a stack of challenge questions to ask people. A quiet competition emerged between us to see how many annoying questions we could ask before someone finally got sick of us 🤫
Trying to find the perfect person to pace with, then accidentally running too fast because the conversation was too good to leave 🗣
My number one goal for the weekend was to avoid re-blistering my toes at all costs (IYKYK) Not because it would stop me running, but because I'm fairly certain my coach would have disowned me if I'd come home with another set of avoidable battle scars. I was never going long, just a training day.
Running to and from a tent for 9 hours is the only kind of camping you'll ever catch me doing: running to the tent and eating, giving a lap report, running back to to the start pen.
Lap five, a cup of coffee waiting on the gas cooker felt like pure luxury. Hastily poured into a polystyrene cup and inhaled during a 15-minute break, it may have been one of the best coffees I've ever had ☕️
The weather delivered. The trail delivered. The people delivered. Every lap ended with a chorus of "Here Comes the Birthday Girl," which somehow never got old 🎵
We were all out there running the same loop, every one of us has a story. Some, chasing goals. Some testing limits. Some fighting demons. Some keeping them at bay. Some simply doing what they love. Some out there for 12, 24 and 30+ hours is just mind blowing, you guys are incredible.
I couldn't think of a better way to celebrate turning 36 👵
