Intermediate Shield Final Match report:
Northern Harps are Intermediate Shield champions after producing a determined second-half performance to overcome Michael Glaveys by three points in a tightly contested final, winning out on a scoreline of 0-15 to 2-6.
With Lauren Shanagher leading the charge with an individual tally of 0-7. Shauna McGrath also made a significant contribution with 0-3, Megan Bilbow & Ciara Cunningham both added two points each while Orlaith Callaghan added a point of her own in an impressive team display.
Michael Glaveys made the brighter start and struck for the opening goal in the seventh minute to take an early three-point lead. Harps responded almost immediately, with Orlaith Callaghan opening our account with a point from play.
Lauren Shanagher then found her range, splitting the posts in the 12th minute before Megan Bilbow added two excellent scores, one from play and another from a free, to bring the sides level at 0-4 to 1-1.
However, Glaveys regained the initiative with a point from a free before raising their second green flag in the 29th minute leaving the sides with 2 points between them at half time.
It was a finely balanced contest as both sides traded points before Ciara Cunningham's second point of the afternoon brought Harps ahead and Shauna McGrath added a crucial score from a free. Shauna McGrath struck again from a free to put Harps two points ahead, before Lauren Shanagher landed another point from play to stretch the advantage to three.
Glaveys responded with a point to keep their hopes alive, but Harps maintained their composure in the closing stages. Lauren Shanagher added her seventh point of the match in the last minute of play, bringing her personal tally to an outstanding 0-7 and leaving three points between the sides.
For Northern Harps, the final whistle marked the culmination of a season of hard work and commitment from the squad who stepped up to the challenge of Intermediate grade this year.
