5 tips for starting fitness for beginners
Starting a fitness program may be one of the best things you can do for your health. Physical activity can lower the risk of long-lasting disease and improve balance and coordination. It can help with weight loss, sleep and self-esteem.
Here are the top 5 tips:
1. Build gradually and start slowly
Start by doing one to two sessions a week and build it up from there. Many people make the mistake of doing to many sessions at too high an intensity. Take the session at your own pace and dont worry about anyone else
2. Break things up
You don't have to do all your exercise at one time. Weave activity into your day. You still get aerobic benefits from shorter sessions done a few times a day. Plus shorter sessions may fit into your schedule better than a single 30-minute session. Any activity is better than no activity.
3. Make a schedule and stick to it
Writing down what sessions you are going to complete is a good way to set goals for yourself. Do this on a weekly basis and the weeks will turn into months and you will notice your fitness health and happiness improving
4. Dont give up after the first session
Many people go too hard to start, are very sore from the initial sessions and dont want to be in that pain again!!! Use good recovery techniques and get back to the gym as it does get easier as you continue to stick to your schedule
5. Be aware of DOMS
Delayed onset of muscle soreness usually appears 24-48hrs after an intense exercise session. Newcomers to training will experience DOMS if they complete a difficult session for them, so be prepared!!!
